I have posted some teasers on various forums and facebook groups about the imminent release of a MFJ 3D printed Double Din facia with working side vents.
This double din facia is designed to fit a BMW Z4 (E85) 2002 - 2008. It requires the removal of the factory fitted radio and air vents, and provides space for a "Short Chassis" Double Din Car Stereo unit, and redirects the air vents to each side of the unit.
This facia provides a platform for upgrading your BMW Z4 in car entertainment to a modern high powered unit, that could provide Bluetooth Audio, Hands Free Telephone, Apple Car Play, Android Car Play, Satellite Navigation. These function will depend on the Head Unit of your choice.
The facia has been designed to accept a "Short Chassis" head unit depth of up to 112mm. There are may of these about, and once I have the unit finished, I'll include a selection of units that I believe would work.
The unit has a 1.5mm lip to overlap the factory opening, as this provides more security to the fitment, and to hide often damaged edges of this opening. This makes the front edge slightly proud of the dash, but overall a much better finished product.
The unit is a 3D printed part using a combination of MFJ and Resin printed parts. The front facia is printed using the MFJ technology and gives a finish close to a factory made injection molded part. The back part of the chassis is then resin 3D printed and attached.
The head unit is then bolted directly into the facia chassis, through ISO provided holes without the need for the metal chassis that comes with a car head unit. The whole unit is then secured in place by the rear heater outlet, and the original mounting bolts that held in the factory radio, but are discreetly hidden.
