Thanks for the reply. Are you 100% that the 1-series knob fits without modification, and behaves as the Z4 knob did?

Yes mate, the one I bought was advertised as a 1 series knob, I took a gamble as it didn't state fitment for a z4 but I could see it had the same stalk (many other bmw models have a different one)..worked perfectly, had it in my e85 for years
