E85 Airbag module [Left]

Recently my airbag light came on, due to this my car has failed the [NCT] Irelands vehicle road worthy test.

My mechanic, diagnosed it as complete failure in the left pillar module and then learned that BMW no longer
produce replacements :(

I have looked online and found a few matching my part number but they are in US or EU etc and are for
left hand drive cars. Does anyone know if a left hand drive
module could be problematic for a right hand drive car?

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Hi Mick,
Can you let us know the part number you need, as not all are compatible.
Then, can your mechanic code it in? Modern BMW software as used by main garages doesn't seem to do it, you need older stuff.
For this exact reason a chap near Dublin actually covered all my costs to fly out with a spare module and code it to his car.
Now this isn't cheap I know, but I was recently in touch with another Irish member who needs his sorted.
So, are you anywhere in range of Dublin airport?
If so, why not look at liaising with [ref]corkbro[/ref], and seeing if we can sort something that benefits you both.

This is of course assuming I have suitable modules, so need that number first.

Cheers for the response.
The part number is 65 77 6953009.
I'm aware that not all are compatible & my mechanic is an ex BMW dealership mechanic between 2002 to 2010.
Strangely he mentioned a dude he knows that can code it in Dublin if needed. If all else fails I'll get back to you.
Many thanks

Ah ok, sounds like you are sorted then.
In that case, rather than [ref]corkbro[/ref] forking out for me to come over, it would make more sense for you to put him in touch with your mechanic to code his one too.
I've messaged him and I think he's going to log in after work tonight.

Hi Mick, hopefully you can find the elusive module! Could you please let me know how I would be able to get in contact with your mechanic or the fella that could code one in? We might be able to save [ref]enuff_zed[/ref] the trip :)

Hi Cork bro,
So you are in a similar situation with myself, Faulty airbag module? My mechanic is based near myself in Tallaght Dublin.
http://www.acautos.ie/ From my conversation with him, I know he spoke to someone who was very up on the electronic side
of the modules, just to clarify I'm not 100% sure if he was a guy who could actually code them, as there was a lot to take in lol.
He seemed to be confident that if I find the exact module with matching part number it should work.
Is it my understanding that a module with a different part number can be coded to work with any e85?
so this where enuff zed could help us.

Just be careful that if the guy isn't 100% certain he doesn't kill the one you have.
I have found a few garages that believe their newfangled BMW software is king, only to find it can't do these modules. Turns out they may need to use INPA, NCS Expert, Tool32 and WinKFP, which is last generation stuff.
If you take your module part number and plug it in to www.realoem.com it will show you a list of other 'exchangeable' modules. Try to find the most recent one you can.
Still happy to trundle over if needed, but it would make sense if I could bring a couple of spares with me. A lot of expense to then find your module is a dud.

I've been using this mechanic with my Z for about 7 years now.
I know for a fact that he wont commit to doing anything that he isn't 100% sure about.
So if anything doesn't work out I will be in touch with you for sure.
Great to know theres some expert knowledge out there :)
Many thanks
