E85 Airbag code 9869

Hi, can some one please advise. My airbag light is on and I’ve tried to reset it but it comes back on again as soon as the ignition is switched off and on. The code says it’s 9869 Short circuit, firing circuit, thorax airbag, rear left (E85, E60, E61), or knee airbag, front left (E63, E64), to positive - apparently, but I’m not sure what the best course of action is. Is this the airbag in the door or a sensor and what should I replace first? I’ve seen replacement door airbag so in ebay for £15 so is it worth ordering one?

Can anybody provide an answer for the o.p's issue please? I have exactly the same problem. I have the MOT coming up and an airbag light is a fail.

I’m on mobile so not too much help, but do a search on the forum as there are similar threads with these symptoms.

One of the solutions was to check the airbag ECU and replace it was it was all corroded and causing issues. From memory it’s in the centre console behind the handbrake somewhere so would only have got wet if you left the roof down and it got rained on.
