E85 aftermarket headlights

Yes ive had a E86 with these fitted , far superior in regards actually functioning like a headlight should do than the OE halogen or xenon offerings Bmw deemed acceptable on any E85 E86 .
A worthwhile spend imo :thumbsup:
 
What would be involved in fitting these?

Why are they better than stock as they just use the H7 bulb?

How so ? Have you tried a set :?
I can only tell you they offered improved visibility over stock halogens & at the same time i had a ZMR with xenon's to compare with & they were better than those too .
In our house currently we a 11 plate Mini Cooper , a 2010 C Class & a 2010 Astravan ( all on basic lamps) all 3 offer noticeably better visibility from the headlights than any E85 E86 unit does .
It doesn't take much to find lights better than the stock 85/86 Bmw ones

that's the problem Mr Wilks :headbang: , you can't see at night, your okay on a familiar road, but for me.. it just stresses me out, also they haze so quickly, they just look nasty and old now, i'll be polishing a hole through them soon

I'm hoping aftermarket headlights will be better for nighttime driving :thumbsup:
 
I fitted Sonar 2xcite headlights very shortly after buying my Z4 almost 4 years ago now. For me the main reason for doing so was purely cosmetic. I wanted to 'de-ginger' the car but I don't like the silver interior of the later OEM headlights with clear indicators and also wasn't willing to pay what people were asking for them secondhand. As I wasn't confident about opening up my existing headlights to 'de-ginger' them I was left with no other choice. I purchased a pair of black interior Sonar 2xcite on Ebay for about £350. They are very easy to fit as they come with a multi-pin connector that just plugs directly into the existing connectors on the car. You just need to decide if/how you are going to wire up the 'eyebrow' and internal white LEDs. I wired these together so they come on with the HALOs as side lights. The HALOs aren't particularly bright. They're ok but not brilliant. I fitted LED bulbs in the 'eyebrows' for a whiter light to match the HALOs and internal LEDs. Also I fitted mirrored orange Osram indicator bulbs.
In my experience I would say that even with Osram Nightbreaker H7s fitted they aren't much of an improvement in illumination over the OEM units. Very marginal if any at all. I have recently adjusted the dip beam up a fair way above what is the acceptable MOT level and they do now penetrate 20 - 30 metres further down the road. I haven't had any oncoming vehicles flashing me so I'm going to leave them at that level until the next MOT is due. The headlights on full beam are superb.
Having said all that I very rarely drive my Z4 in the dark so I'm reasonably happy with them as they now are.
Overall I've had no issues with them, I think they look good and they are bright enough to get me seen :)

Buy the 2xcite lights. They include the self levelling motors in the unit unlike the ones in your Ebay link :thumbsup:

As long as you've got an E85 and regular halogen headlamps you will be fine with the 2xcite :thumbsup:

Unlike Patriot I have went without the sidelight option (eyebrows) but have yet work out to have this as a permanent feature.

You need a Carly adapter to plug in and code the changes!

You have 4 options................

1. Wire them up and have the eyebrows (sidelights) see first pic!
2. Remove the sidelight bulbs and live with the warning light on the dash!
3. Keep the sidelight bulbs in, and just tuck them up out of the way!
4. Have them coded out!
