e85/86 Specific Android Screen

Anybody else cutting their dash using a Dremel is easier and less risk of damage than a drill and reciprocating saw :o

Top of the dash I used dremel. Now that I remember I have one of those multi-tool cutter that would have made cleaner cut.

The lower half the of dash I used that hand held jig saw which had short fine blade.. was going for speed..

BTW, no one could really figure out how to do the 360 camera or front & rear camera. I pour through hundreds of post and one user used this module https://www.qualitymobilevideo.com/avs210.html

I ordered it but not sure how its going to work and where the power will come from. Either from the android unit or I run one out of the fuse box. it wont be here for a 2-3 weeks but once I get it, Ill test it and report back.

The Avin guys sells a front camera but can't supply any documentation. Another issue is finding a front camera that works. Basically the image will be inverted if you buy a rear camera to use in front, which is what I have. very few places I can find HD camera that has the invert option. If I do find one I will report back.

ugode sells these android on ebay, the video shows you can install quad camera for 360 on the unit but they dont show you how..

Its a pretty good upgrade. Good thing we didn't get the older android... so many people brick it by upgrading the firmware trying to get stuff to work, older android 7/8 was so buggy. If you are getting this, now is good for version 9+.

Snake the camera wire in, license plate light camera. Install the reverse light led light bar, tap into reverse light wire, no errors.

Has anyone found a version of these that can connect to the original E85 CCC type SatNav LVDS connection? The radio unit that comes with the SatNav screen has no display on its own, which would make it impossible to see what radio station is on, setting time and date or adjusting the equalizer settings. I've seen units that have an LVDM input, but nothing that would pair up with the 18 pin OEM connector for the original screen.

Hi guys. New to this but have a 2006 Z4 with factory fitted sat nav that doesn’t work. Pop up still works but screen lights up randomly. Just seen this and wondering if this unit fits my car and if you all think it’s worth it. Thanks in advance. Tom

Same here, have factory sat nav and would love to have android / Apple CarPlay in my E85. Has anyone found a solution to replace original?

There is a solution for those that already have the factory sat-nav, and that is to replace the factory headunit with a non-sat-nav version. This way you have the controls that you'd otherwise loose and then can add on the Android screen

Hi
Is it possible to install it in a car that does not have the factory sat-nav? Would that just include cutting?

i have fitted the AvinUSA 10.25" E83 version to replace the factory flip up screen & nav system and is great but does have some issues.

Cons:
1. these head units use canbus, the E85/86 uses K-bus. i had to buy an I-bus interface USB to get some features to work.
2. steering wheel buttons don't work except for the volume.
3. screen angle gets a lot of glare with roof down.
4. if you have DSP then you loose most of it unless you buy the I-Bus interface and pay for the correct licence.

Pros:
1. choices of sat nav's live or offline
2. carplay or android auto but you need to buy the adapter for this.
3. add torque app with correct OBD adapter to get custom dials on screen
4. could install carly with correct OBD adapter
5. SD car for music
6. bluetooth phone reception is far better than BMW old system

Hi Sir
I would love to know more about the installation of Joying. Can you guide me in the right direction? I have an e86 without sat-nav from factory.

Beat regards

Hi, I'm from the Netherlands and experiencing the disadvantages you wrote. Could you tell me some more about the I bus interface? Which one did you buy and what problems does it solve?
Did you do any coding on your e85?

I bought the I bus interface which plugs into one of the USB’s on the screen loom. You have to wire in 3 wires, power, earth and coloured wire into K-bus cable back of factory stereo. I had to by the licence for DSP to work. You can code the car and use steering wheel controls to work the music via the I-bus app.

To clarify from this thread:
1. If you have the factory flip up sat nav, you need to change the headunit to the non-sat nav non-DSP OEM 'business' one ( so its canbus ).
2. Then remove old flip up screen and make new cuts so the new smart screen can be fitted. Has anyone done this yet? Just wondering if the scar from removing the OEM nav screen is covered by the base plate from the new Android one? Then just connect up the loom cables supplied and it detects all the canbus info? ( as screen grab on page 2 )
