e85/86 Specific Android Screen

Morning all,
Not posted in this section before as I have an e89, but I have some news for anyone wanting to upgrade their headunit to something more modern.
Some of you may know that I've organised a group buy for the e89 android touchscreen add-on, well the manufacturer has just informed me that they have developed a e85/86 specific version (instead of customising an e83 version)… EDIT - For e85/6 that do not already have sat-nav.

Now there is no iDrive controller (due to lack of location place)
EDIT Price is Unit $500 +Shipping $75 + Paypal fee $40
If you take a look at my group buy link in my signature below the specs will be the same.

I won't be undertaking a group buy for this one though but I'm more than happy to sort sales out for anyone who may be interested and act as a UK go-between (I have no financial connection with the manufacturer, I do this purely to help out)

Am I reading this right?
e85 version?

Would this be available for my 2006 E85?
I have the factory nav (old pop-up screen) and bluetooth (not working at the moment), but would jump at the opportunity to update this

As this is "hot off the press" then I'll check on integration with the e85 iDrive system and see what they say.

And yes this is for the e85/86

Although this will completely replace the old sat-nav screen (no integration at all) you'd have the options of almost any preferred sat-nav app from the Play store you wish to use.
I've asked if they can supply me with a cutting template so I can get one of you to take your current screen out and see if the new one will cover this. If you don't currently have sat-nav then you'd need to cut the top of your dash for this to fit.

EDIT, they are sending me the cutting template.... so I need a volunteer that is happy to take their current screen out and check it.

I'd be very interested,, also have factory nav

+1 :)

+2!! Actually due to have my current radio ripped out for an updated Pioneer Media unit (for quite some price I may add!) but if i can keep it and just replace the old pop up unit I am all over this!! Any idea how this would be controlled? I assume it is just touch screen?

I would love to be able to have something like this to go in my E85M, but still be able to use the BMW sound system as mine has the professional sound system with NAV. I've seen various threads online where someone did an Android mod, but they had an aftermarket head unit installed, which is not something I would want in my own car.

Another question, because I am a shameless sheep and utter Apple fanboy, I would prefer to have an Apple system. I am guessing that due to the small screen size of the E85/86 screen, the iPad Mini is not going to work, which is why it has to be an Android system?

It does support mirror link for iOS, if that helps

It "does" support Mirror-Link but to be perfectly honest unless you are desperate I wouldn't recommend it at all as it relies on you controlling everything from you phone. What's better is that it supports Apple Carplay which is far, far better with full control from the touchscreen (not sure yet on control from your steering wheel controls, something I've got to find out yet)

Take a look at this video I've made for my E89 unlt (all the software will be the same) this shows the Carplay and the optional Android Auto versions (please note this is an optional extra, but I can point you in the right direction)....

Thank you for both clearing that up for me. On my iPhone, I have had the TomTom app since 2009, which I paid for and was carried over each time I upgraded to the next iPhone. I use to be able to use it on my original iPad a long time ago.

I understand that most people these days are using Waze? I've not really used it, both have had downloaded it and it seems very good for free software?

Am I correct in thinking that this kit, means the screen is always up, as it's a larger unit to make it easier to use? I do like the fact I can just fold the screen down when I don't need it (local driving at night).

Firstly Sat-Nav....... You have a whole host of apps you can use from stand-alone (built-in maps) to Live apps (using your HotSpot or via Apple Carplay/Android Auto)... Waze, Navmii, Igo, Sygic, Google Maps, Apple Maps (if you really have to!!!! apparently it's not very good), CoPilot GPS (my personal favourite as I paid for it years ago) to name a few. How many of these will work on Carplay I'm not sure (Apple/Google Maps and Waze do for sure).

Yes the screen is always up as in the photo. It does darken down depending on the time (and correctly set up time zone) and if you have your lights on or not. Most nav apps have an auto night time screen as well so overall night time driving isn't a problem.
Another thing in Carplay and A Auto is that you can "hand" it so the main buttons are on your side of the screen.

A lot of the posts on my group buy thread are generic as the software is all the same.

Interesting that they've made it to work with the older e85.

Does it integrate any of the legacy functions which the build-in satnav has, ie access settings (for example cars Date and time), access on board computer, radio station selector (thus controlling the standard head unit?)

Again, thanks for taking the time to answering my questions on this. I know it must be a tad frustrating for you to keep doing this for people like me, who always have a load of questions you must have answered countless times before!

I'm glad it offers so much flexibility as a device and it's obvious it's a much more practical and useful system than the BMW system. I will PM you in a bit to go over a few things, but just wanted to thank you for providing me with the information I need to know.

This unit was developed following requests from e85 owners that they wanted something for their cars. I mentioned the e83 earlier as that was a YouTuber who used the e83 version and integrated it into his e85 and it worked and looked exactly like this, although this version has a mounting plate specifically for the e85 dash top.

As far as I'm aware it will pick up the canbus line and pick up info like this...
Screenshot_20190425-202702.png

For all audio it will transmit this via the AUX input point (I'm assuming this will be directly to the headunit loom connection, but I need to check this) so your headunit volume knob will control the sound level and sound will be amplified through the headunit.

Hi Dave, cheers for your reply. If you are by chance able to find out, it might help me (and others) make a decision.

What I meant, is that at the moment the satnav screen for example displays which fm radio station is tuned, and which song on a cd you're listening to. As the e85's that came fitted with satnav have a slightly different head unit, than those that came without. See attached picture. 20190311_200215.jpg

So, if the new screen is able to show some of the bits, which the satnav used to show, that would be quite good to know.
