Removed my old and broken phone prep door and trying to figure out how to refit the new standard door freshly arrived from Sopers. Both of those two retianing screws are out, plus the old broken plastic lugs that were in the hinge section after the original door was broken.

Cant for the life of me figure out how the two lugs on the new door work with the hinge in the car though?! Any ideas?

Do I still need to remove parts of the old door? Cant work out if this is part of the original broken door thats still in the hinge and don't want to force it out if its not.

Yes, you need to pry both sides out, as you can see the shapes match exactly

Thanks kis
Trying to pry them out but proving tricky and don't want to break the hinges. Is there a technique?

I just pulled my cover really hard and quickly, but that doesn't help as they're already broken!
If you look at the one you're installing it seems to have a little hook? I'd try a small philips and push that section in?

You're a star, Kis.

Did exactly as you said and the old retained door nodules came free. Had to be careful not to lever the hinge itself as its pretty soft plastic, but with some careful [and determined] prising, they came free.

New door slotted in perfectly, put the retaining screws back in and I now have a fully functioning and spring loaded door again

Thanks for all your help and hopefully this thread can help others.

WINNER!

on a side note - but relevant - are these compartments standard? and if not, can they be retrofitted?
Cant see why not. Should be the same format centre console, so would assume its a like-for-like swap out. Did Z4s come without the centre cubby then?

As far as I know, all E85/E86 Z4s come with this cubby storage area.

All mine ever seems to be used for is storing the sound pipe foam when I change my mind on how loud I want it

This is how I did mine To the left of the door is a small hole you need to insert a thin pice of wire (coat hanger) Now, proceed to close the door until it is just barely open (do not miss this step!) and insert the wire into the hole on the left side of the door. You could also use a large paperclip unfurled. It should go in about an inch.

As you allow the door to open, it will stop against the metal wire and will be held slightly open. This sets the correct angle for pulling the door off the hinges. If the door isn't at this angle when it is pulled away from the hinge, you risk breaking the door. It will still require a strong pull and a disturbing pop, but the door will come off the plastic hinges.

Good addition to on/off technique.
The new door I received actually come with a long white plastic insert with a disc on the end.
