E85/86 Latest navigation DVD price

My car is with Sytner's today for an alloy wheel refurb due to a minor kerbing incident I recently had :headbang:

Whilst I was in the dealership I enquired how much the most recent Navigation DVD was for my car and was astounded to be told £175 !!! I thought they were about £90. Well frankly at that price I'll live with the fact that mine is a year or two out of date. To me that is just extracting the urine after the original owner paid £2k for the professional navigation. Apparently that price is reduced from £200 now that I don't need to exchange my current DVD. Bargain.....

Is that the price that others have paid for an official BMW DVD ?

I called BMW North Oxford to ask the same question and was quoted that price as well. I sent an email to Joe@Sopers who was able to offer a 10% discount and free delivery (so about £157). To be honest that it still a bit rich for what it is, so I am resolving to put up with my 2007 disc for the time being.

Apparently you used to be able to part-exchange your current disc for the latest one, but from the 2011 disc onwards, this is no longer possible

Question: are all nav discs on ebay "dodgy"? For example this one claims to be a genuine BMW product and comes in aroudn £135 delivered.

I don't advocate piracy, but is it any wonder people do it at those prices?! :headbang: Talk about profiteering.

I wonder what, if anything, might be achieved with a Group Buy ?

I don't have Joe@Soper's email address but might be worth asking ?

I got a 2010 v2 disc from my local dealer for around 100 last year, exchanging my 2008 disc. Shame they stopped this option now.

IMO the BMW maps are still vastly out of date... My 2010 map still has my sisters road missing and that was completed in 2006! Even a 2007 Tom Tom has it!

I just use my iPhone as back up nav, sweeter graphics, full post code and you can pre-plan routes (copilot). Bimmer nav loves to take some weird diversions/routes I've found so i rarely rely on it!

It was one of the reasons I didn't want a Z4 with sat nav, I'd previous had a VW Polo with a built in sat nav and VW wanted to charge me £150 for the disc. However it's nice to have it inbuilt as it completes the OEM look but does comes at a price...

When I was chatting to Sytner, the saleslady mentioned that the new ones run from a flash drive and that this gets updated complimentary when you come in for a service, however I don't see that happening!

I upgraded to the latest SAT NAV dvd in mine - the first thing I did after buying the car. The speed cameras are dead handy, although still manged to get flashed by a traffic light camera, despite the lights having only just turned to amber!

PM me for details.

That's why I use a becker nav which suckers onto the screen.Doesn't look too slick BUT, I can have a new one every 3 years for @ £ 150 - 200 with all the latest mapping and software in.The built in ones are a waste of money from day one. I have a brand new Toyota as a company car and I still prefer the way my Becker nav maps and thinks to the one in the Toyota even though it has a big screen and is built in. My next co car has been specced without nav.

The nav may not be the best, but the Z4 with the nav screen had other advantages.... Better phone integration, computer, use of intravee etc.

I didn't care about the nav when looking for my car, but now I have that screen I wouldnt be without it.

The sat nav is OK, aside from the out of date maps the only problem I've come across so far is that it won't let you put in a full post code, just the first part plus the number at the beginning of the second part, e.g. BS6 7 and not BS6 7UR. If you don't know the road name of where you're going, it's not entirely helpful!

You can get firmware versions that deviate from OEM that enable full postcode lookup. It is a bit of a cludge, but it works.

Is this something that you can get above board or is it one of those "backstreet website" sort of things? :P

I succesfully updated the Professional sat-nav on my 3002 Z4

Firmware & Maps including speed camera's with Speed Camera locations was £30

PM for details

just a little warning....

in order to get speed camera's and full post code via POI menu requires you to either get a bootleg copy; or copy your genuine version hack it and then burn it to DVD.

There have been known cases with the MK4 unit where a copied DVDR can lock the unit... sometimes to the point where the unit has to be replaced!!! is the £100 cost of a CD worth forking out for a new drive which is upwards of £300??

Well, there have been known cases of people being struck by lightening too... But you're right, it is worth pointing out that you're on your own with bootlegged firmware. I don't know of anyone personally who has been afflicted. Myself including :)
