E85/86 Coding Options

Want to have a play with the options on my car, but my Bimmercode software doesn't want to play with such an ageing platform as the E85.
Any recommendations for easy and cheap ways to access coding on my E85?
PS I'm a creative and Mac based, so don't have a PC.

I'm guessing you mean things like triple-flash indicators, beep on lock/unlock, etc.

I got lucky getting those coded by forum members at a local car meet. My previous Coupe was done with Carly, my current one on a laptop by "nick_l" but I don't know what software he was using.

Following this thread as I'm also interested! Also about coding out the faulty bulb light on the dash, but not sure if that's under the same umbrella

I used carly, options I found useful: Beep unlock/lock, Auto locking doors above 5mph, Digital dash speedo, Brake force lighting on the rear (inner lights illuminate aswell), 3 flash use with indicators one touch, closing/opening windows from key.

Exactly this. But I don't want a Carly subscription. Just want a play!

My carly is pre subscription days, I don't think your too far from me, fill your boots if you want to play with the carly unit one day.

 if I'm ever out west of London, I'll drop you a line.

We have a Carly pre subscription days but the app won’t work anymore, force the upgrade of the app and Carly wants a subscription.

Need to try on an old phone :x

You can use "BMW Scanner 1.4" (cheap on Ebay or Amazon) or "NCS Expert" on a laptop.

Joycey, please tell more about digital dash speedo. Does this use the dash Body Computer display between the tach and speedo ?

Thanks

I was hoping to have a play with coding my E86 as well. I've got a spare laptop, and might be able to borrow an OBD lead, just need the software. I see you can buy the ISTA+ from Bimmer Diagnostics, but there is also the Rheingold ISTA+ which is free. Are these the same in functionality?

If you have a spare Laptop running Windows 10 or XP get yourself BMW software package INPA and the interface with cable from ebay sellers, it comes with other software like NCS Expert and Win KPF and DIS which gives you coding ability. BMW Scanner 1.4 can also be purchased on ebay and has some coding ability as well as diagnostics, its far easier to use and set up than the INPA package.
Coding with NCS Expert is quite involved with reading files and saving them into a different format so they can be manipulated and then written to the car. An extra piece of software called NCS Dummy can be downloaded which translates the written file into meaningful English, when the required changes have been made the amended file is written back to the car. You tube is a source for finding detailed explanations on how to use NCS Expetrt and Dummy here is an example I found that gives a good explanation of the process

The Carley system for coding requires a subscription to be paid to use it which is an added expence which puts people off it these days when there are cheaper options.
Some of the newer Tablet diagnostic tools will also have the ability to code cars but they do come at quite an expensive outlay, personally I have a Launch Tablet scanner that can Diagnose many makes of cars including the BMW's. Its far easier to use than the laptop software and has the ability to code modules to the car if they are replaced. It will also delete Transport Mode which the likes of BMW Scanner 1.4 will only allow a reset of that particular mode. These Tablet Scanners do tend to be an expensive outlay, mine cost £300 but worth it for their coverage and ease of use.

Can BMW Scanner 1.4 do soft touch indicators (3 flashes on quick press) as I really want this function but can't see where in the software to do it. Does anyone know?

On a facelift I believe it should, yes.
I am guessing as I don't have one to check on, but I think it would be in the GM5 module.

Yeah, I understand that to be the module but the software doesn't list it, it just gives 3 letter codes for the modules and on each I check I just can't find the damn setting! Only setting I can't find, done everything else I wanted. I'll have another play in the morning.

Its on page 1. Central Body Electronic.

Same, curious what that would mean/do.
Ever figure it out?
