E85 3.0L Manual - Clutch

Hi all,

Think the clutch is going - when accelerating harder than normal, the revs rise quickly and then drops before the speed of the car actually increases.

Was going to tackle myself (almost looking forward to it!) but it seems a car lift is a pre-requisite.

Does the clutch need to be changed by a reputable BMW workshop or can I take it to generic clutch replacement places? Been quoted £615 by our nearest Mr Clutch branch for example, which seems fairly reasonable.

Thanks

I have to admit trying this on the drive is not on my wish list

That’s a decent price- check the DMF doesn’t need replacing at the same time that could add a few hundred more to the bill

Thanks Stuart - if even you wouldn’t attempt this on the drive then that’s saying something!

Hmm, read some reviews of Mr Clutch and not sure I want to chance it with the treasured possession that is the Z4. Will get a couple of quotes.

Anyone had a clutch done recently and can share prices, parts needed and where it was done?

Cheers

I use a local bmw specialist- the lads there are all ex soper and trusted

Brill thanks. Will get some prices and see how it compares, might be worth a trip up to Lincoln if price is reasonable. Guessing it was done in a day?

Thanks

I did my 330d clutch and flywheel in the garage on axle stands. It is certainly do-able (after all I did it) but it isn’t the easiest undertaking. That box is bloody heavy.
Would I do it again on my Z? Probably (glutton for punishment).

That’s impressive!

Think I won’t be able to get the car high enough on my stands due to the angle of the driveway. Had a decent quote for labour from a very reputable BMW specialist so will probably go down that route.
