E85 2.5si Sport

I’m looking to buy my first Z4 and think the 2.5si hits a nice sweet spot of power / price / spec.

I’ve missed two really good looking ones over the last week or so that were listed for just over £4K as they were 4 1/2 to 5 hours drive each way and it’s just a bit too far to go in case they end up not being as described and I don’t buy. Otherwise they seemed perfect.

What I’m looking for:
ESSENTIAL
About 3 hours maximum drive from Newcastle. Ideally closer. That would get me down to about Nottingham.
Manual.
Grey, silver, black or dark blue.
Heated seats.
Full service history.
100,000 miles or less.
Standard / unmodifed.
Body work in good condition. I don’t mind age related stone chips and minor scratches but no big scrapes, dents etc.
Seats can be worn. I don’t mind a bit of restoration but no rips or tears.
Working roof. I don’t mind getting it relocated myself if that hasn’t already been done.
MOT/service not imminent unless you’re going to get them done.

PREFERRED BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
MV2s. Obviously I can change wheels if needs be.
OEM wind deflector. Again I can buy if needed but it would be nice to get it included.
Cruise control.

Budget. Probably £4.5k max. The ones I saw listed recently ticked nearly all of the boxes and were a bit less than this.

Hi and welcome.

A 2.5Si probably does represent good value, because 3.0Sis seem to command a premium due to their relative rarity (as we'veread on another recent thread less than 700 manual ones came to the UK).

As you say wheels can be changed and a wind deflector sourced separately if necessary. Cruise is also one of the easiest options to retro-fit as BMW still sell the control stalk for just over £100, and there is a forum member who will make up the small section of wiring to connect it in for sensible money.

But if you like the M-Sport seats don't be tempted by one that doesn't have them because they can be the best part of £1,000 to retro-fit!

Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the reply.

Good point on the sports seats. I assumed they must be standard on the facelifted sports models but if not then it must just be coincidence that the ones I’ve looked at have all had them. They are something I’m after

Just to be clear M Sport seats are standard on Sport models, but a 2.5si on its own isn’t a Sport, it only refers to engine designation. You can get a 2.5si in SE and Sport trim (Same for any engine in facelift models).

Hi Philhul,

I have just put my Z4 2.5 SI up for sale. Marginally more miles than what you are after, but otherwise it should suit your requirement.

Please see the link here for it: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=123094

The mileage doesn’t put me off as it’s not much over the 100k but a 10 hour round trip is more than I’d ideally like. I’ll have a think
