E85 2.2i M54B22 straight-6 engine pops

Hello everyone,

I'm an owner of a BMW Z4 E85 2.2i M54B22 straight-6 engine ,

  • I really love the car but I wonder if there is any possibility with this engine in particular to make it pop after acceleration with somekind of exaust modification or any other costum modification?

    I did some search and it came up with some backbox delete results but I'm not sure if that is going to make me hear the engine pop (my objective) after acceleration or just make it louder in general...

    Maybe some of you know about a costum exaust system appropriate for this or any other solution,

    Or there may be no solution at all for this type of engine...

You can modify the backbox so it's a little louder with a few pops and gurgles when you lift off, have a search there are pictures on here somewhere, you'll need to be able to get it welded though.

I wouldn’t remove the back box entirely, you end up with a noisy car & lose all tone. I’d get the back box modified if it’s really not loud enough for you, it’s going to be more subtle with less Vauxhaull corsa undertones :thumbsup:

I can't find it now but I've done it to mine, you cut open the backbox, inside there are 2 pipes in and 2 pipes out (they are offset) with a gap in the middle, you need to fabricate some new pipe to join them together, if you perforate the pipes you get a nice increase in noise and some pops without it being too loud. You'll need to be able to cut and weld stainless steel to do it.
