E85 2.0i Rear Springs

A couple of months ago I suffered from the usual broken rear spring syndrome - not unusual I guess as my car is a 2007 model, BUT with only 18,000miles on the clock. My main BMW Dealership initially said they would let me have a new one as a goodwill gesture but then turned round and didn't want to know - NOT impressed!!!! :(

I was then left to sort myself out and ordered on-line a pair of rear springs which arrived and I fitted quite easily (thanks to the threads on this forum). At the time of ordering the tele-sales lady had me confussed with the listings and sent me a pair of springs for the standard (Non-M Sport suspension). Classic mistake - wrong springs!!! I should have ordered 06229's NOT 06226's.

Anyway I've replaced the 06226's with 06229's having done only 30miles on them. So I've got for sale a pair of virtually new springs for the Z4 2.0i and 2.0i SE. Listed on Ebay:-

Hi mike

Can I ask when you had these springs on was the ride quality better/ softer?
Compared with the m tech springs you have on now.

I love my car except the ride quality I have a 3.0l with the blue paint springs I have changed to eibach lowering springs and have not helped despite people's recomendations on them so basically I'm after the standard springs

Hi Luke

Yes, the ride was slightly softer and I was very tempted to keep them on the car. However when talking it through with the people at Suplex who supplied the springs it was pointed out to me that a change of springs might upset the various settings on the suspension so lead to things like tyre wear etc. it may well have been a sales pitch but it was enough for me to go for the M Sport springs.

Ok that's interesting, I am tempted aswell to put these springs on,
presumably the fronts would need the same because the m stuff lowers the car. Otherwise the car wouldnt sit level Did you notice the car was higher with these on? I.e wheel fender gap enlarged Compared to what you've got now?

My car was also incorrectly fitted with Suplex's 06226 rear coil springs by an Indy working for the previous owner shortly before I brought it. However, 14 months later I discovered this (from the invoice that was passed to me) and the same Indy fitted the correct 06229 springs, supplied FOC by Suplex, and it didn't cost me a penny.

I didn't notice any ride difference as shortly after this I put Eagle F1's on in place of the Far East ditch finders.

Perhaps I should have asked to do an exchange on the springs but its too late now.

As for the ride height with the softer rear springs, it was very slightly higher at the back by about 10mm - hardly noticeable and likely or not this would go down as the springs settle in use. Interestingly if you look at the dimensions of the springs they are the same.....the guy at Suplex told me its about the heat treatment of the different springs which gives them the various characteristics.

Mike Have you still got the springs? How much do you want for them inc postage and packaged
I will be selling a set of eibach pro kit soon

I'm happy to sacrifice a softer ride with some body roll than what I have ATM

Hi Luke

The springs are listed on eBay - they can go for what they go for!

I couldn't help but notice that your car is a 3.0. I'm not convinced that my springs (for a 4 cylinder 2.0) would be up to the job - the Suplex list suggests 06228 rear springs are required for the Factory Standard Suspension and 06231 for the M Sports Suspension.
