E85 18" Tyre advice

Hi all,

I have a 3.0si E85 on Runflats currently.

Following a suspension repair I've noticed a lot of inside wear on the left rear and I have a not so slow puncture at the left front, annoying as there is plenty of tread on all four but I feel I need to replace some for safety.

Could I please ask for some advice on whether to move the two right hand runflats to the front and replace two rear. or go for 4 brand new ones??

Also please include a link to the best deal or a recommendation on which tyre to go for, price is a concern but so is grip.

Are you not running staggered sizes? the wider rears will need to stay on the rears.

anyways, if you need new tyres, i'd ditch the runflats and switch to normal tyres. I've very recently bought a new (to me) bmw and its back on runflats, and the deterioration in ride quality and increased tramlining is immediately obvious.

there are some great deals to be had on Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 5s right now, very very good tyre.

Also be sure to get a decent wheel alignment done when the new tyres are put on, otherwise the new tyres will quickly wear the same way the old ones did.

To answer your first request, I would question whether your wheels and tyres are the same size front and back? If not, then you can't move them anyway.

Whilst you are obviously looking at cost, it is never recommended to mix run flats and non-run flats, even on different axles. Technically legal, but many people report weird handling.

If I were you I'd be looking for a complete set of four non-runflats, the best you can afford on your budget.

As a guide, I picked up 4 staggered 18" Goodyear Assy 5s for £400 from Formula 1 tyres about 6 months ago.

With regards to the best brand, you'll get dozens of different answers on here I'm sure.

I had forgotten about the size difference so yes that probably answers that for me.

I had been looking at getting my steering rack looked at but if the runflats are to blame for the tramlining then this may help in relation to budget.

Does that include fitting?

Forgot to explain properly, when I got mine from Formula 1 Goodyear were doing a deal. They cost me £480 fitted, but I got £80 of John Lewis vouchers back. But those sizes you quote are the same as I got.

So the price you have there looks about right, unless of course you're prepared to wait for other suggestions from the forum.
Personally, I think the Assy 5s are great. They also have a good rim protector which helps if you need to park alongside kerbs a lot.
