Thanks - its unreal that BMW design it in this way - do they expect it never to blow? I dont understand!!

I was wondering if you could fit 20w bulbs instead of the standard 10w bulbs. Would certainly be brighter and same yellowish colour as lower rated bulbs. I was thinking about these bulbs http://www.consumabulbs.com/files/bdet.php?id=72

Has anyone upgraded to a higher wattage bulb?

I tried a lower wattage bulb when mine blown as that was all I could find at the time. Looked the same but it was still showing a bulb out symbol on the dash along with the indicator lit up.

@Jan - yea, i knew this would happen when i found a 6w buld (same fitting) in halfords...

@ Swiftly - yea you can fit the 20w bulbs, a buy in the US on this forum did that and it works well - here is the post http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=36896

Looks like an online job then!!!

Update - only place i could get this bulb was from http://www.consumabulbs.com/files/bdet.php?id=169 and it cost me £5.95 - recieved today!

On REAL OEM this bulb can only be bought in the holder - which is a complete BMW rip off!!

I've seen threads saying that LED bulbs dont light the ring as well... If anyone has changed these for LED's shout up and post some pics. I would be interested in ridding of the yellow tinge from the standard ones.

+1 or changing standard 10W bulbs for 20W ones as a last resort.

or error-free led from ebay?

Which LED for this job tho? Would they fit into the plastic housing as posted at the start of this thread? That is my side light..

I put an led bulb where my halo is, took some fettling, and the halo was only 50% lit up!

So i went back with a halogen.

Curiously, how easy was it to remove the bulb housing? When I look under my bonnet all I see is ENGINE... If anyone has any instructions that would help I wouldn't mind messing with different LED's to see what the outcome was. Surely if it has an LED at each side of the bottom of the ring pointing into the ring it would work....

The lights are accessed behind a flap in the front wheel arches - not from the engine bay :poke:
