Cheers. I had briefly investigated that idea; I have a Sony player presently (not in the car). Sadly the combination of the adapter and the 90 deg. face of the non-BMW player looks really ropey. As the player is not sloped at the front, you have either the adapter sitting flush with the air vent panel and the player protruding along the top edge or the adapter jutting out at the top in attempt to compensate for the player's misalignment.

I bloody loved Minidiscs. Great shout... you could have a footwell full of them, just rattling around.

Even going back to CD and mp3's is an option. I'm sure the facelift CD player is mp3 compatible? This means the original unit can be used and so no unslightly facia or in your face flashy headunit.

Thanks guys, but for reasons outlined previously, I'm not after a 'new' head unit. I'm simply searching for an OEM minidisc player to replace the CD player.

I don't believe BMW ever offered an OEM mini-disc player.

Shame as i too bloody loved them! I thought they were the future!

Ah right, confused by title. MP3 CDs should be an option or a USB interface, I also don't think there was a minidisc option.

There was a BMW mini-disc player option for the e46..and have seen one in a CSL.

Don’t think it will fit a e85/86 though.

Not for the Z4 fitment anyway, they did for the e46 though.

There are "add-on" hidden MP3 (memory stick, memory card, bluetooth etc) players that allow you to retain the original OEM head unit

PS. OP might consider doing it this way in order to keep the tidy OEM headunit but add the functionality of the SONY unit you already own

There was definitely an MD option on early E85s. It’s in the brochures. Like hen”s teeth now though.

I have seen a MD player for the E85 / 6 on ebay.

They sold the last one I saw.

They have a load of E85 parts, despite the name.
