E61 M5 Touring

But the M5 Touring us a VERY rare beast, with less than 200 on the um roads.
True.

Can't comment on the touring version specifically, as they were LHD and no good for my Maccy D drive throughs ;-(

The touring is a bit 'softer' than the saloon though, as there's no rear bulkhead at the back of the seats to stiffen it - which makes heavy braking from high-speed (e.g. 170mph, at Bruntingthorpe officer) a bit, erm, 'exciting'. If you stay in manual mode, you will hit an indicated 170mph in 6th before the limiter comes in. If you get it chipped to remove the limiter you may see the other side of 200mph. It's so much faster than a Z4M (in a straight line) that you're at the limiter half-way along the Bruntingthorpe straight whilst the Z4M hits its limiter just as you need to brake for the corner.

Go for it - you can always sell it when you get fed up of the £100/day fill-ups :P

It's the potential for £100 a week depreciation and a further £100 maintenance that really concerns me!

The E60/61 M5s are just awesome. I just don't know how much of that power you would get to use on a day-to-day basis. The 535d is a superb car, as are the 545i and 550i.

I love the fact that my 545i is debadged. Anyone who knows their BMWs can see it's not an M5, but out on the road they presume it's a tarted up rep-spec 520d.... not for long though!

Oooo I like what you've done here.

Maybe wrap the diffuser in CF?

I think ex-Z4MC owner Cheburator (and member on here) is an E61 M5 owner IIRC. Might be worth a PM to him.

Over on the M-Power board on Pistonheads there is a really good buying guide for the E61M5 and other E61 owners there who seem pretty knowledgeable and willing to offer advice.

I've had a good read of that, and plenty others. I've made my decision, it's a NO!

Based on 6000 miles per year, an M5T would cost me almost £4800 excluding wear n tear and depreciation.

An 07 530i (if I can find one) would be £1500! That's almost £300 pm more for the M5T....that's a shed load of money to be throwing away per year!

M.

I love the E60/E61 shape - had the 545i on my saved searches and considered one very recently, but swallowed the more-sensible pill and went for my E90 330i instead. Shame really as I reckon that's me missed my opportunity to run a V8 :(

Shared a ferry to Skye a couple of years ago with an E61 M5: amazing noise when it started up in the semi-enclosed space, particularly when you're directly behind it.

The second part was in relation to the e34 M5 Touring (which was LHD only), not the E61 Touring :poke:

And Maccy D drive-through's in the UK are on the RHS of the car, so you have to have a passenger, or very long arms :P
