e46 sport seats retrofit

I don't think there is any difference between the sports seats in my E46 and the M3 seats in my Z4C in terms of comfort. Both are nappa leather so very similar. The M3 seats are styled slightly differently at the top so might suit personal visual taste differently. Some M3 seats have inflatable bolsters which I don't find that useful but others might. The big difference is E46 sports seats will be cheaper as they don't have the 50% M surcharge on them. Also ones from saloons and tourings will not have the tilting back rest that a Zed doesn't need anyway, plus I think they have the seatbelt mount on the frame that makes fitting into a Zed a little bit easier.

Thanks.

I do find my Z4 M-sport seats give a bit more lateral support than the Sport seats in my E46, but I'm sure the E46 Sport seats would work better than the Sport seats in an SE Z4.

The tilting seat backs could be handy if you want to use the cubby holes in the Z4 though!

I've looked at some photos and it doesn't look like Saloons and Tourings do have a seatbelt on the frame, but convertibles do - presumably because there is only half a B-post.

True, I do tilt the M3 seats sometimes.

My E46 Touring has the seatbelt attached to the seat frame at the bottom. I don't have a saloon lying around to check though.

I've been thinking about replacing the foam on my SE seats to see if there was more give but this would be an interesting option. Any photo's available?

Not the greatest photo, but hopefully it will give you an idea what the E46 seats look like in a Zed. I was lucky enough to get a pair of M E46 seats in Nappa leather and inflatable side bolsters and lumber support. I absolutely love em

What functionality do you have with these seats? I have have the heated function and would like to keep it.

I swapped heated, electric E46 ‘Vader’ seats into my car replacing heated, electric SE seats. Everything works perfectly.

Vadar are e36 M3 coupe seats.

Huh I didn’t even look into it, but the seller described them as Vader. Just google images them and yeah you’re right. I just have normal E46 M3 seats.

Still work perfectly.

I had full functionality when I installed my M3 seats (power, heat and inflatable bolsters and lumber support). I’m not sure if heating came as standard on all M3 seats, so you’d need to ensure they have heating and power before buying.

Ideally I would like to keep the heating function, not too bothered about the electric adjustment. Especially if it means I can save weight :-D :dance2: .
