E46 M3 wheels - now fitted! :-)

Just picked up some E46 M3 wheels - was already aware with the rears having 255/35/19’s on they would be more likely to rub than 255/30/19’s... and having fitted the rears they certainly do rub under compression. I’ve only just lowered it on H&R last week and so aware the springs may still be settling and drop further, which makes me think changing the rear tyres to 255/30 or even 245/30 will help but not necessarily resolve, but as an alignment was done after lowering using M Sport 18” settings, wondering if I should just get it aligned again and get some negative camber dialled in to pull it away from the arch lip/edge - possible?

Can’t you just fix the ride height, so it’s not sitting on the tyres?

H & Rs drop lower than Eibach , you might cure it with a spring change + tyre change .
If you are altering camber just to get a clearance fit then you have the wrong set up of wheels / tyres / suspension

That’s how I want it :wink: but thinking the recent alignment might have put too much positive camber in when now with a rear offset of ET27 I need some negative adjusment.

then you have the wrong set up of wheels / tyres / suspension

I’ve seen a few do it with lowered suspension and the same wheels but consensus seems to be 255/30 tyres are needed.

No the 35 profile isn't helping neither are the H & Rs , its doable & driveable but factors need to change

I’ll get the camber checked to see what it is now as it may have been set back to 0 on the 18’s. H&R are staying so worse case I’ll just sell the wheels on but hoping with a bit of camber adjustment and maybe a switch to a 30 profile all will be fine

A friend of mine was having rubbing issues on a set of wheels he had a few years ago and he put them into a machine shop and they skimmed 5mm off the offset on them for him. He never had anymore rubbing after that. Just a thought if you wanted to keep the wheels.

They look awesome, picking a set up for my coupe tomorrow, also in the same boat looking at tyres although I am not lowered just m-sport suspension.. wondering if I can get away with m size tyres

Have you thought about using thicker spring pads to lift the car slightly, might just be the extra clearance you need...
From memory think they come in 5/10/15mm

He never had anymore rubbing after that. Just a thought if you wanted to keep the wheels.

I really don’t want to be messing with the wheels themselves but can see how that would work as just refitted them at a tyre garage and while I stood in the boot and jumped up and down my mate confirmed it’s just the arch lip hitting the sidewall and hence either the arch lip rolled, smaller profile tyre or both should stop it happening

Did you get them? Mine have got 255/35 on the rear which doesn’t help but if you’ve got SE suspension I imagine they’ll go straight on with no issues at all

Have you thought about using thicker spring pads to lift the car slightly, might just be the extra clearance you need...
From memory think they come in 5/10/15mm

I like it low down and so looks like all I need is to replace the rears with a 235 or even a 225 (stretched I know but will be inside the arch at least) with a max 35 profile and should be good

Meant to say - at the garage yesterday with me bouncing the back end stood in the boot we deduced it’s just the arch lip catching on the outer sidewall due to the ET27 offset and of course the 255/35 truck tyres so two new tyres to be fitted which should pull the sidewall in and stop the rubbing

The rears don’t look good at all to my eyes. These M3 alloys don’t really seem to work on the Z unfortunately.
