I recently bought an E46 M3 strut brace on the forum and noticed one of the 6 bolts that secure the brace mounts to the top of the struts wasn't in great condition and as I tightened it it cracked. Does anyone know where replacement bolts can be bought from and what the part number is?

Cheers

Jeremy

The bolts are designed to stretch and only be used once and correctly torqued. When you re-use them the metal has been stretched and re-torquing stands a good chance of snapping them off. The bolts are a dealer supplied item and a bit expensive, problem is knowing whether aftermarket items are the correct spec.

+1 for this. Designed and manufactured for single use and I for one; wouldn't use anything but OEM - more expensive but safety critical.

Are they similar to nylock nuts? could nylock nuts be used?

Not really, they are an engineered part with specific deformation characteristics for the required torque values. It's one worth shelling out for BMW parts TBH.

The ones you need have a collar on them which locate into the holes providing more thread on the nut.
