E46 M3 more economical than Z4M

Mine's sitting at 31 just now, but then I think 3 cars is a traffic jam :D

Best I ever saw on the E46 M3 was 34, I've had 38 out of the Z a couple of times.

11, there must be something wrong there...you're not towing a caravan are you?

Or going uphill?

Try and tilt the seat forward so you feel you are going downhill all the time. This will soon improve the numbers...!! 8)

Yes I found the same.

I think it's down to the throttle mapping, the e46 has a much less aggressive mapping than the z4.

Hey all, so, i've been driving my brothers M3 a lot recently and I've noticed that it's much more economical than my Z4M, I live in london so granted I don't expect to be hitting high numbers regardless but it still came a bit of a shock to me. Mine get's 11ish MPG in bad traffic and about 15ish in ok london conditions. Driving my brothers M3 I struggle to get it below 18/19 in city driving. Both cars being pushed the same.

Just doesn't make sense to me lol
Agree with you and my brother in law always got around 30 mpg from his E46 M3 yet I only ever saw around 23 mpg out of my Z4M so it doesn't make much sense when you consider the zed is slightly lighter as well.

I only get 25 mpg out of my 330i so you can only imagine how many times I wish I still had the Z4M for the sake of 2 mpg! :driving:

Hmm, my 330i E90 N52 manual did 31mpg average over six years. Never dropped below 27mpg, would hit 35mpg at an 80 lepton cruise. My Z4M has improved a bit mpg wise, probably just getting run in. It's now just over 20k miles. I get 27mpg average half urban (London), on 95 ron. Put in 98 and an 80 lepton cruise and it will do 30mpg.

Considering my new MX5 1.8 15 years ago did 28mpg overall with 140bhp, I'm not too unhappy!

11MPG sounds more like you're driving my car...

Is it that bad?? are you commuting from/to brum still on the weekends?

Haha nah not too bad.

I currently do 53 miles each way to the land of roundabouts each day (Milton Keynes). About 48 miles of that is cruise control at 60 or lower depending on traffic and I average 24 mpg :p Which I personally am impressed with for the size of the engine.

Anytime you touch the throttle though the V8 does sub-10 mpg!

Not unhappy with the mpg on my 330i because its a nice engine but its an auto so that makes it more juicy but obviously I would appreciate more power from it and the fact there is so little difference between the S54 in the Zed and N52 in the 330i just shows how frugal the S54 is for the performance you get in return.

I can get over 30 mpg in the 330 if I drive like a grandad but if I wanted to drive like that I would have been better off in a 318.

MY Z4MC is around 2mpg better than my convertible E46 SMG M3 was, which I assumed was down to the weight. 21.6mpg plays 24.2 mpg...
