E46 CSL anti roll bars

Hi all,

I’m considering upgrading the front ARB a for genuine E46 CSL hollow 30.8mm item and the rear for the H&R 25mm item. I will also be replacing the factory suspension for the Bilstein B12 setup.

What are your thoughts on the this setup? Worth it for the weight saving and resale value over say the front H&R or KW item?

Cheers!

Personally I'd just get the H&R ones... I don't think you'd notice the weight saving at all!

I bought a nice 2nd hand csl bar last year for £200 I think with the intention of fitting it for the weight reason you give. Having added more than I would like on the front disc weight any unsprung weight I could get back seemed kind of worth it. There's very little in it though being effectively half the weight difference gained. I seem to remember there's 3 or so kgs difference between the z4M and the csl so 1.5kg unsprung gained, but it's not that surprising I can't remember as the rubbers I ordered for it only turned up 2 days ago, 5 months after I ordered them
I'm actually hoping/thinking it shouldn't be much difference in stiffness to the Z4M bar, I'm assuming (yeah I know  ) the solid bar will be stiffer than a hollow one slightly(either way the diameter isn't hugely different). Certainly though if I wanted to increase the stiffness of either bar in the car it wouldn't be at the front. I'll see how it feels with the CSL fitted shortly and like you consider a rear that is both thicker & adjustable and then consider I might have just wasted a bunch of cash :P .
FWIW I think the H&R bars etc hold their value just fine on the 2nd hand market and I can't see that a relatively simple to manufacture ARB to be one of these future unobtainium type csl parts.

Take a look at the ground control race bars, hollow, significantly stiffer and larger, while being much much lighter.

Why the long wait for the bushes Tom, backorder from BMW? You didn't fancy Powerflex/Superpro PU items?

Yes, long back order from bmw. On the plus side for you they must have manufactured a new batch so I imagine there will be no lead time.
Personally I'm not a fan of using PU bushes for bmws in most places.

As an aside, I thought the B12 kit (with camber shims) worked very well on track despite the lack of adjustment, I found it pretty terrible on the road mind.
