E number identification

Hi all, I don't pick up my 2007 coupe until Thursday , but how
do I find out the E number that i've seen quoted (E85 etc)

Because when you talked about your car, the dealer amongst others wouldn't know which model you had. Just like Escort Mk1, Mk2, etc.

that makes sense, but E this and E that doesn't, why not just say Z4 Mk1 or Z4 Mk2, i went on a BMW meet once, all these guys talking about E no.s, i was cluesless, if they had been talking about 3 serie or 5 series etc it would have been far simpler, i should be more on the ball i suppose

Historically, each BMW has carried an E project number – standing for Entwicklung, or development. The numbers have then risen progressively up to triple digits, at which point F numbers have taken over.
