E 89 to E 93

Went test driving the 3.0 s drive and found myself buying the E 93. The Z is more compelling from a pure performance stand point and is drop dead gorgeous. The E 93 is not as visually appealing on the exterior but I found the interior more accommodating and frankly better. Both rides were better than my current 2006 3.0 Z but that is to be expected in 4 years. The fact that you can have both a Coupe and a Convertible in the same car makes both exceptional IMHO.

The boot is actually smaller in both with the top down than my Z4 but the E 93 gives you a fold down back seat and through trunk loading to make up for the difference. The ride on both is exceptional even with RFT and sport suspension, no need to abandon the RFT. Both were equipped much better than my current car so the feel of both was a sense of more quality and luxury. I drove the auto box in the E 89 and both a MT and AT in the 328i and chose the Steptronic. The new hard drive Nav/Idrive is a hoot, voice controlled and 3D views as well as control of all of the systems, it seems much more intuitive and easier to master.

I'll miss the Zed because of its raw quality as a roadster, my third Roadster, first BMW BTW, but it has put me on a BMW journey that will probably last a lifetime.

New E 93 spec is 2010 328I Montego Blue/Slate Grey/ dark walnut/sports/cold/premium/ USB/AT/ comfort access/ Nav/idrive/satellite

Nice comparison.

My mum has a E90 with idrive - and imo its a bit tricky to master - not so bad for me - but my parents really struggle with it - so much that they are tempted to buy a regular tom-tom instead!

Also you have the option of adaptive cruise control - its brilliant love driving it just for that alone on the motorway - but it does seem to use more petrol then regular cruise (its a 335d)

I had an E92 Msport and it was a lovely car. Considering it was on 18" RFTs and sport suspension it should have been a crashy mess, but it was fine. I think BMW have finally learnt how to develop the car for RFTs rather than just bolting them on and hoping for the best.

The ride in my E85 coupe is much harder. I'm hoping thats down to the RFTs and will improve when its time to replace.
