Dynamic button

Hi all I am new to this forum so please be gental with me. I purchased a new 35is in September in mineral grey with coral red leather, my question is after running in my car with the recommended 1200 miles I have pressed the dynamic button to activate sport mode, however there doesn't appear to be any difference. Has anybody else noticed this?

Not to sure about your model but there should be a very noticeably sharpening of the throttle response with the sport button pressed
Hopefully someone will be along with more info
Welcome to the forum

Yes press the button from comfort to Sport especially when driving and you should feel a noticeable surge forward and the car becomes more lively. Strangely on mine it's more pronounced at times than others, don't know why.

Tim.

I notice a very pronounced difference when going into sport mode on my 28i. Much livelier throttle response, feels like a different car.

Welcome along - look forward to seeing some pics. There was a topic on the from another member who said the same thing within the last fortnight. I can't recall if they had an E89 or E85/6. Be worth trying to find it.

Thank you all for your replies. I had a 2.0 Z4 previously and when a pressed the dynamic button to sport mode I too noticed the throttle liven up and the steering response change. My new Z4 35is dynamic just doesn't seem to do anything! I will try and post some pics of my baby once I have worked out how to!

As far as I know the Dynamic button just tightens up the suspension in 'sport' and then goes on to reduce the stability electrickery in 'sport+'. If you have 19" wheels and ultra low profile tyres you won't notice a great deal of difference except when the road gets a little rutted whereupon the car begins to hop, skip and jump a bit. Personally, I don't think it adds much with 19" rims fitted and is not an advantage in the wet at all - a disadvantage even.

For those who mention sharpening up throttle response, where do you get that information from?

I don't think the size of alloys would effect the feel of using the Sport mode, if when you press the button you don't notice anything at all, i.e, the car feeling livelier, and a sharper throttle response then it sounds like you have a problem, or its not working.

You should definitely notice it working.

Hi, in an earlier topic it suggested resetting the engine by turning the key In the ignition and leaving it for 10 seconds then turn off turn on again and leave for another 10 seconds then turn on. This should reset the engine. It may well be able to get a noticeable difference.

Does the centre of the instrument cluster change between "normal or comfort and sport the sport plus'? If it does it's working and you should feel differences in throttle uptake steering weight, suspension damping and DCT shift bands. If nothing registers on the display between the speedo and rev counter then you've a faulty switch.

Hi maniac, I do get the sport mode in the centre instrument cluster, however there is no change in steering weight etc. at all! I think I will ask the dealer to take a look as my last 2.0 Z4 there was a definite difference in this mode.

Lovely colour. Check with your dealer if you're uncertain about the modes. Easiest way to tell is steering, changing modes while moving and wiggling the steering wheel.. You should immediately feel less assistance (heavier) as you move into sport and sport plus.

Found it on the BMW web site:-

Sports mode is activated using the Drive Performance Control fitted as standard in the central console. Through a predefined setup and according to the equipment selected, it results in a considerably sportier adjustment of the drive and suspension – compared with the standard settings. The engine responds more spontaneously. In combination with the automatic transmission, shift points have considerably more sporting character. And combined with the Adaptive M suspension, the chassis has a far more athletic setting. If variable sports steering is chosen, the assistance from power steering is reduced, which ensures a more direct feeling of steering control.

Got to love marketing lingo - a more spontaneous engine and a more athletic chassis

Mmm looks like my new baby needs to go back for a check up as I have been out in it today for a good run trying to see if there is a difference when I press the button to put it in sport mode, and there isn't! Even the gears change at the same rev limit.

Certainly on my 23i the button seems a waste of time.
Ok you get better throttle response (as it should be as standard) and the steering gets slightly heavier, which is annoying as i wish it went lighter, can't see hows thats 'sportier'. The steering feels like driving a truck.
