So I had some time to kill today and decided to mooch around BMW in Wycombe . I was eventually approach by a rather nice young lady who enquires if I need assistance ( my mind wandered alittle ! ) then I asked her about the possibility of a new E89. So we sat and browsed the available stock from BMW .

It would appear that there are no 35is left new, no 35i's manual or auto and only a few 2.8i's and you are unable to spec anything , you just have the choice of what is already build. There are some cracking deals to be had on the cars available but obviously you have to compromise of specs you desire .

We also search pre- registered vehicles and it's a similar story although there are a few 3.5is and 35i cars available with delivery mileage only .

Better choices on approved used stock as people are being tempted into new cars because of the deals available and trading in older cars. But still the choices are limited . Anyway it killed a few hours and got me a coffee and cake and a rather nice view !

What sort of prices were coming up on the pre-reg?

As an example Sytners have a very well specced 35is in mineral grey with 11 miles on it with it being registered for 37k with a further 2k off if you take out their PCP. For comparison then it's identical spec to my 35is except for 3 less speakers and mine was not registered and I paid 40k dead last April on PCP.

Fairly tempted to pop down to the local dealer and see what 35is's are about. Might be the best chance to upgrade the 23i I will get.

Yes the car John mentioned was printed out and given to me to take away . Good spec but that was the only 35ls listed by Sytner today . On a 66 plate with 13 k of the new price , it's tempting .yes less speakers but .....heated wheel !

When I looked and sourced mine in early August choices were very limited !
I consider myself fortunate that I got a car with all the essentials and most of the desireables with some extras thrown into the mix.

Pre reg is the way to go but remember the dealer claims back 20% VAT on the full price so use that as a starting point.

That's not correct. Yes, they pay VAT on the price they paid, but they also include VAT in the sale price, the difference of which, depending on their other purchases that qtr, has to be paid to the VAT people, so they don't get that 20% "off" what they will get, is a bonus from BMW for registering a predetermined number of vehicles in a period, and this takes the form of "extra" discount from the usual dealer price per unit.

As it's a used car, VAT is payable on the profit.

Options were very limited / restricted in early August when I was ordering mine. I could get all my must haves but had to compromise on black Kansas leather rather than the Red that I wanted.

Black looks fabulous with the mineral grey Ronk, best combo imho.

Oh I am quite happy - but when I was first shown a car with the "RED" and was a convert - then they said BMW's system showed a code 555 on the system which was in reality locked down ordering so I couldn't specify.
They trawled around the national system and found a car that fitted my spec and did a deal with another franchise to secure it for me - I gather they swapped something the other dealer wanted.
It didn't have the red leather with the toys I wanted so it was a take it or leave it scenario - I took it!
Black leather but with the toys and trim on my list.

I was going to wait till i got home from my holiday in Germany and gamble on better deals - it now transpires that i could not have had the car to my spec.
As I hope to keep this for a long time, my full spec with little or no compromise was important and probably worth throwing more cash at the deal.
