You've got to allow a full day. . . .
There are so many exhibits and hangers to visit that you'll need plenty of time. Think of it as a collection of museums rather than just one.
Hanger 1 is massive and holds all British and Commonwealth Aircraft. It also has a new section for the Parachute Regiment and that alone is fabulous. Then there are several of the original hangers with working aircraft from WW1 and WW2, the cold war, one of them has working aircraft being serviced and cared for as well as renovations and rebuilds, another WW2 theme - it just goes on and on. All to be walked through and you'll have so much to see.
Then you have a massive modern building which houses the American Airforce Museum - another museum that could stand on its own with The Blackbird and lots and lots more. From there you'll walk up to the Land Warfare Museum - which could also be a museum in it's own right - full of tanks, artillery and Regimental displays through the years and up to modern warfare - including Montgomeries Caravans - it just goes on and on. . . .
On the massive site there are also outside exhibits to look at and visit, V1 ramps, radar, aircraft, military machinery and other pieces.
You're going to Love it.
I've been a 'Friend of Duxford' as my wife's family own a farm in Cambridge just 24 mins from Duxford and I visit as often as we are down there. If you're lucky there will be something flying (even mid week) as it's a working airfield.
It's a very special place and terrific value. - there's a real sense of history. I've taken a trip up on the deHavilland Rapides that fly there and flown one of the Tiger Moths if you want to spoil yourself.
I always take something to eat - you can get a cuppa but the food is expensive and not too brilliant.
