Duh ... Wipers Left or Right?

After a recent wiper motor fix I'm questioning whether I replaced the wiper blades in the correct orientation. One wiper arm is straight, one is offset ... which one goes on the driver side (US Version)? I have the offset one on the driver's side, and yet my passenger side now doesn't appear to make full contact to the edge of the windshield.

Thanks and regards,

Brian

Don't know what you're driving but if you go to the Gallery there are a zillion photos , find one of someones car similar to yours and zoom in.

Now don't you think I tried that! ;-)

Seriously, couldn't find a pic with enough detail to tell. The April 2008 is my exact Z4 ... and one showing wipers ... but can you tell which is which?

Someone please enlighten me.

Offset is drivers and straight is passengers. (UK car)

Oh great ... the old UK versus USA, left/right confusion. :poke:

So are UK wipers the same as USA? UK Drivers side=USA passenger side ... so unless there's a wiper difference the offset would be on the USA passenger side?

Which direction do the US wiper park and sweep?
UK wipers park away from the driver towards the kerb side

Sitting in the driver's seat (USA side) the wiper's are parked to my left and sweep clockwise to the right.

RHD wipers are mirrors of LHD. The side with the pivot and top of the sweep closest to the A pillar is always the drivers side regardless of which side the driver sits.

This might help as well:

Look at my avatar pics
Sounds like the wipers are the same as the UK arrangement?

Yep, that makes sense. Looks the same.

The RealOEM link did help. I think I have them reversed. Thanks for the patience and input.

Brian

The passenger side sitting up from the window is totally normal - the screen is too curved for the blade. Every set of wipers I have had has been the same, bit of a design flaw... Though I can't decide if it's BMW or the wipers that are to blame :?

Every car I've owned of various makes with a reasonably curved windscreen all have the same problem. Wipers just can't spend most of their life parked on a curve and then cleanly wipe a relatively flat surface. If anyone is to blame it's automotive stylists that insist on curved windscreens. Or maybe we're to blame for buying cars with such styling.
