Dual Fuel Cooker

Completely random topic, I know, but...

I am looking to replace my electric cooker with a dual fuel (gas hob, electric oven) version, but it seems to be a minefield trying to pick one.

I was looking for something like this:

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cannon-harrogate-c60dhsf-dual-fuel-cooker-03097462-pdt.html

... but when I search for reviews it seems every review of any brand is always negative. I guess they would be, as who would really spend the time raving about an oven on a review site, it's just the people who have problems that do.

Anyway, does anyone have any experience of the good, the bad and the ugly in this field, as I have no idea at all.

The prerequisites (if possible) are:

A lid, so it can be used as a work surface when the lid is closed
The knobs preferably will be pointing outward rather than upward.... hopefully they wouldnt get as mucky as the current ones that point straight up (who knows though!)

Any opinions would be much appreciated :)

I would avoid anything stainless steel like the plague.

i have an SS range cooker and the hobs, splashback even the cooker hood is a pig to clean. a simple bacon sarny and ur up to your neck in cooker cleaner

I looked into it few years ago as I have both gas and electric connections so it was possible. I prefer a gas stove top but at the end of the day I did not see any advantage to an electric oven. Where I live gas is the cheaper fuel by far and if you lose electric for some reason (Like a storm) you still can cook on the stove top. Is there some reason(s) why you are interested in the dual fuel setup?

edit....silly me...the wife wants an electric oven....right... :P

i also hate electric ovens, especially hobbs i just cant seem to cook a good steak on them

i used to work for currys a few years ago and i would say something gas with no stainless steel would be the way to go. also if you do get SS baby oil gets the crap off and leaves it shiny

I agree as I had an electric range once. Never again....Real men cook with fire....

LOL, thanks guys... looking at silver in colour (well, wife is) but not SS so that wont be an issue. Cost isnt so much of an issue but I believe elec fan ovens heat up quicker. Either way, I am really looking for brands to go for or avoid? Anyone used Cannon before?

Had a Cannon before, about 12 years ago which was fine.

When we moved we had to upgrade to a dual Range cooker. Make my car look cheap

www.baumatic.co.uk are good! Reading based too.

www.rangemaster.co.uk are the expensive end of the "normal" market. Not sure how much better they are.

BTW, on the subject of the wife, how was the wedding?

I must admit, after having moved up to a professional cooker, there is nothing out there like it and the cooking experience is different. Having so many burners, so many ovens and the better quality equipment it is just great to have.

It is like the "M" of the cookers :D

Yep! Worked in professional kitchens and couldn't agree more. Despite the common view of "How much? For a cooker!" It's one of the things I really want when I can afford it, that and a well kitted garage

Garage first though.

Indeed. I was told I could have my garage kitted out after the cooker though

Also moved up to closer to 'Pro' with an all stainless dual fuel, dual oven, dual damn price Rangemaster (Part of Aga)

as Pawnsacrifice and PVR notes the power of the gas on the burners is amazing and the fan ovens heat up and cook really quick

Never use it, never clean it but results achieved by Mrs CJ are awesome :)

I'd def spend the money on something with a bit of kick and quality in it

LOL, Can't quite afford the size of kitchen to fit one of those though... Think of what I'm looking for as a 2.5l version... not bottom of the range but mid-range and with enough poke for most people :)

I've had a Baumatic S/S cooker for the last 6 years and can't fault it, Leccy ovens and gas up top, I especially like the wok burner for big fire!! :fuelfire: They are a little bit more expensive than your usual high street brands but shopping around online will usually get a good deal on them.

we have a raengemaster it dose everthing it should well bought it on line from a place called the trading post it was a really good deal we have had it five years now the wife gives it death with baking cakes bread etc with the duel gas oven one bieing a fan assisted job it has a ceramic hob which is easy to keep clean especialy when I use it which is not verry often ,
I boiled an egg once and burned the water :D I have fitted three of these for customers and none have complained
