dst light

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I can find it anywhere, so here goes.....

Whilst driving my 2.2 '04 plate the other day my DST light and warning light both came on. Both lit up yellow. They stayed on for 30 mins or so till I got home and turned the engine off. The following day the lights were gone and didn't show again all day. Yesterday they appeared again, once the engine is turned off and then back on the lights are gone. I have spoken to my local independant BMW garage and they say that the DST, ABS etc are all linked and they need to put the car on the diagnostic machine to see what is wrong. Anyone else had this problem and if so is it a big job to fix.

Heres hoping it won't be expensive.

By the way..... the car has only done 18,000 miles. Don't know if this makes any difference.

Many thanks

Dont know if this is similar, but when i owned a 1-series there was a fairly substantial number of cars of around that age eg 04/05 plate cars with that light coming on.

It was tracked down to the ecu which controls the traction control systems and iirc from the post on the forum the part alone was in the region of £1400 without fitting.

I know some of the members on there managed to get the part as a good will gesture from bmw and just paid labour, basically the ones that had a full bmw history the others had to stump up the cash.

Don’t take it as me scare mongering but just be aware it could be costly.

If you want to do some reading there is quite a few posts on babybmw, just do a search and you should find it.

Sounds like an ABS sensor failing, can have the fault diagnosed for about 40 quid from an indy then replace yourself or get them to sort it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The light hasn't come on this week, but i am taking car to my independant next week for him to plug into the diagnostic machine.

Cheers
