Dsp amp Replacement

Hi Guys,


I have a dead DSP amp Part no. 65.126938189. I put the part number into realoem and it said that the dip amp from the X3 E83 would be compatible!

Anyone tried this?

I have also read that the E46/c amp may work but as far as I can see that is only non DSP. would a 10 ch non dip amp work in dip system?

I replaced mine with a 10ch Carver DSP amp from an X5.
However, you need to be careful that the HW/SW numbers are compatible.

Not saying it's possible, but have you tried getting it repaired? Could work out cheaper then buying another second hand one with an unknown shelf life.

If I'm not mistaken, an E83 is an X3, not an X5.

BMW X5
First generation (1999–2006) E53
Second generation (2006–2013) E70
Third generation (2013–2018) F15

@Niallc Sorry if you thought I was being sarcastic etc. I was actually suggesting that if there is definitely cross-car compatibility of the amps, and there's a resource which details this, it would be good to share that for everyone to be able to benefit from. In your first post you hinted that you thought there might be, but seemed unsure/wanted confirmation.

As others have suggested, these amps are getting rather rare, so if plug-and-play alternatives are available (and confirmed to work), it would be be great to make the info public.

Slightly off topic, but the E83 nav head unit is cross compatible with the E85/E86 - basically identical save for the writing on the front.

E39, E46, X3, X5 and the E85/6 of that era share a lot of the same nav/audio setup technology.

my DSP amp is HW 6/ Sw 10.
Would I have to bring a different HW/SW amp to a dealer to get coded?

Or is there anyone that could recommend someone that could repair mine? Theres absolutely no sign of water in it or burnt components.

Do you know the part number so I can check? The connector in the boot, does it fit or did you have to change anything?
