DSP Amp Replacement (help needed)

I have just purchased a DSP AMP with matching head unit off ebay.

I googled the part number using my VIN and REALoem. it it shows part number 65129138102. However the amp I purchased (65126963304) shows as exchangeable (highlighted in attached image). Could I just swap the AMP/DSP or will need to swap the the head unit too?

Also, does anyone know of a guide for accessing the AMP in a Z4M roadster?

I’ve just replaced my top-hifi amp (in a non-M). When I looked into the wiring it looked to be standard pin outs so I’m not convinced the headunit version is tightly coupled. I may obviously have gotten lucky.

The BMW manual references coding the amp after install. Again I didn’t have to do this but my replacement came from a Z4 so would have been correctly coded. I believe these units are shared with the X3 so may have different setup.

The amp is under the boot floor trim according to the BM tech manual:

If your car was built after 1/2006 then your amp is on the bulkhead in the boot.

Good save Bumpy. That makes a lot more sense.
I wonder if any were ever in the boot floor! Probably not given the production dates. 👍🏻

I think for an M, the amp is always on the bulkhead isn’t it, because there’s no battery box in the boot floor?

It looks like I might need to remove the battery to get to the DSP amp. It’s a 2007 Z4M.

The carpet lining seems to run behind the battery and it’s too stiff to bed round.

Can anyone confirm it’s battery out before I make loads more work for myself!

Thanks
