DSC Warning light

Coming home today the DSC warning light and brake light come on and stay on. Checked the handbook and it says DSC system failure, refer to dealer. Will have to I guess, but sounds expensive :?

Has anyone had anything like that? I did do a search but didn't find anything. Car's only done 14.5k miles.

I had this about three months ago and they had to replace both DSC sensors, fortunately it was covered under the extended warranty, the dealer implied to me that the cost would run up to around £700 ish because of labour.

Keep my fingers crossed that you've got the warranty mate!

Best thing to do if no warranty is take it to an indy to get fault diagnosed, should cost bout 40 quid. They will be able to quote you for replacing it also, most quote 2 hours labour approx plus the part. Alternatively get them to dagnose and replace yourself.

I think it's no. 5 on the front.

and no. 20 on the rear.

Thanks for suggestions all, appeciate it  I've booked it into the stealer tomorrow for a while-you-wait diagnosis. Been lucky with the car, hardly any issues in 5 years. Will post the outcome, cheers.

Took the car in yesterday for a diagnostic at the Stealer.

Seems like a DSC sensor has failed, so, including a couple of hours labour (resetting the system) at the lower rate because of the age of the car (offered, I didnt have to ask), should be a little under £250.

They didn't charge me for yesterday, offered to wash the car while I was there, and will collect and deliver when it's booked in (35m round trip) it's ear, but I'm paying for good service.

Thanks for your inputs, much appreciated.

Footnote to this. Although the car is 5 years old now, it hasn't done many miles, so the stealer asked BMW UK if they'd contribute to the cost of the repair - did so without me prompting.

Result is that BMW are paying all the labour and 1/2 the cost of the part (which means it's still covered by warranty, wouldn't be if they paid for it all, apparently).

Pretty good I'd say :)

Very good result.. how many miles has it done and what year ? excellent precedent, surely.

I got it in May 04 and it's still only done 14,700 miles. Coopers in TW did the work, which is where I bought it.

They've always been very good, well almost always. I bought the Z in 5/04, then an E46 as my 'sensible' car. Got good deals on both, no prob with servicing, always helpful, always collected from home, washed, good advice where appropriate 10/10. Then I changed the E46 for a 120D...oh dear.

Ex demonstrator, came with bits missing and broken. Everything which needed doing took at least 2, sometimes 3 visits, even simple stuff. Eg, missing seat control knob - 3 attempts. Not the 'front of house' people who've always been excellent, something not right in the workshop. Final straw was when I complained about flaking paint and they gave me a quote for repair. :x

Anyway, fixed all the 120's issues myself in the end - chopped it in for a TT. Sorted. Whether this made an imprsssion, or they're just getting back to their old self, I don't know. Whatever, I'm more than happy with them :driving:

Hi Guys, I know it's kindaa late but hope it helps! The light came on yesterday, I called and booked the car for next week to be fixed. I searched the forum and someone suggested to check the tyre pressure, so I did exactly that today, and amazingly this solved the problem (at least for now), no warning light on the dash anymore! I'll let you know if it comes back!

Hmmm, this seems to be the same issue I have on my car. Both lights came on for no reason whilst driving slowly in traffic. They stayed on until I switched the ignition off. Restarted the car and they were gone. Most odd? Think I'd better get it in to my local specialist for diagnostics. I fear a large bill is nigh :(

Cheers for the response. Hmm, my steering wheel isnt 100% aligned with the wheels. Could this be an issue? Although this is the first time I've seen these lights since I bought the car nearly a year ago. Going to take it out for a drive lunchtime to see if they come back on.
