DSC Dilemma

Surely, you mean the revolting member!? You just wish you had a coupe of some sort tucked away so you could be a member of the exclusive two clubs club!

DSC !!!! Only why out of my village in the snow for 6 mile is off or car will not move.as to rest of question I lernt to drive by the seat of my pants ie befor ABS DSC ETC, Learn to drive :poke: But I do have very very large carpark empty to play in when it has been snowing :thumbsup:best next to a track day infact you might learn more that is of use to you every day. Arn't I the lucky one,

Back on topic, I had DTC engaged on an empty and slightly icy single track road with plenty of 90 degree bends. Was a pleasure to drift the rear round the corners. Have to say it's similar to the DSC I had on my 3 series. I was driving at low speed, c.20mph on the 90 degree bends.

Wouldn't want to try it in anger on dry roads....

As did I. All front wheel drive and thankfully without any driver aids so that lift off oversteer was always available to counter the inevitable understeer. I learned about rear wheel drive in my Westfield at the tender age of 25 - pretty steep learning curve in a 600kg car with a greater power to weight ratio than an ///M and no hint of any kind of driver aid except the seat of said driver's pants!

That's precisely the time to try it (or out of deference to our conservative friend above, on dry track with an instructor :P )! In all seriousness, a gentle play on an empty piece of dry tarmac at modest speed will help you understand what the car is capable of and how to keep within those limits (or not if you prefer  )

I would say 'excessively paranoid' :?

Seriously though a good play in an abandoned car park can only do good... well unless you crash :P

Shame we don't have what the Fins do - skid pan as part of your driver training!

Sounds like a holiday in Finland is on the cards :D

I leave the DSC engaged in normal, public street, day-to-day driving. No reason to turn it off really, as it may save me from my own stupidity/clumsiness some day. But I fully disengage it for autocross (it would slow me down and I want to directly experience the responsiveness of the car without any electronic interference).

Even with DSC fully disengaged though, I think that the car is fairly "forgiving" and does not tend to throw me any big surprises.
