DS left shift not working

My left shift to DS and manual mode has stopped working. There are no lights on the PRND at the shifter but the dash shows correctly.
The paddle shifters work, the Sport mode switch still works and the car drives fine in in all other respects.
I've seen on YouTube that this can be caused by broken wiring beneath the shifter on the E90 and E92 3 series but can't find anything on the z4 e89?
Any help would be appreciated.

Update
The wiring was broken at the shifter. Wires extended and re routed. All now works except the PRND lights at the shifter that strangely shows P irrespective of being in N, R or D.
My local Indy LM Tech in Stanford Le Hope Essex are going to look at it again but in the meantime wondered if this is a known fault with the standard 6 speed auto?

Most likely either the connector from the shift unit to the socket in the centre is dicky or the shifter itself is..fault code reader would help.

Thanks B21
There is nothing showing re warning lights or bongs! Do you get fault codes even without those warning?
Do you know if the shifter is the same set up as the E90 and E92? There are plenty of examples of my fault on those models on YouTube showing broken wires where pulling left on the shifter stresses the wiring at that point beneath the trim!

I don’t know on the ZF6HP..

On,y know the DCT and ZF8HP

Got the car back today all done. PRND lights were just a faulty connector. The loss of left shift Sport and manual was broken wires. Some photos attached.
It cost £190 with my Local Indy who I would thoroughly recommend if you are in the Essex area England and need help.
He lengthened the wiring so the harness could route in a loop around the shifter (see photo)
All correct colour wiring soldered and hear shrink insulated.
Many thanks to:

I tried to post a short video of what happens but it wouldn't load!
When you you left shift the harness which is not wrapped close to the shifter has to move around 20mm and change in shape from about 90 deg to 135 deg angle. That over time causes the copper to become a bit brittle and with age and cracks in the insulation the wiring snaps.
It's not BMWs best bit of engineering to be sure.
I've had the car for 10 years and 15k to now 43k miles and rarely drive it in D preferring Manual mode so not too many complaints.
It's still a lovely engaging drive.
