Drove a 335i Sedan today

I brought my Z4 in after the passenger window mechanism decided to snap and the window was stuck. Thankfully it was covered by warranty and they actually ended up replacing both sides since they would both make a loud squealing noise when I would roll them up or down. Anyway, as a loaner I got a 2008 335i with twin turbo for a day. I was not sure what to expect but the thing is fast. Those turbos really kick hard and it literally throws you back in your seat when you give it some gas. I have been driving Bimmers now for about 5 years and have tested different models as loaners but this one was by far the most impressive. I am now seriously considering getting one. Has anyone else driven or own one and what are your thoughts?

Since I only had it for a short time I could not really put it through its paces but I would say it is faster than a E46M3.

I also got a 335i sedan as a loaner car for 2 days. Acceleration was decent but didn't impress me, but then again I was coming from the Z4M. :D The steptronic tran felt pretty smooth & shifting was fairly responsive; auto rev-matching was a nice feature. I'd still never get a sports car with the steptronic transmission though (SMG/DCT I can do). Gas pedal felt numb and was disappointing on the other hand.

Overall, I liked the 335i and it's actually got me started thinking about getting a 4-door sedan w/auto tran.
 
I when i brought my Z in for the last time( warantee expired in a month). i got a 2008/9 335xi automatic and it was AMAZING!!! it just keeps going and going. flooring it on an enterance ramp was insane, as it upshifted you would imagine that the engine would lose some power, but nope turbo spools up and makes the ride feel like a rocket. i found myself doing 130+ on the way to atlantic city, short spurts of speed and slowing down just as fast.

it was almost like learnign how to drive again. the acceleration was almost non existant at first push. then all of a sudden it comes alive and pushes you into the seat. stepping on the brakes was effortless, you just touch it and it feels like ur slamming on it. So essentially your head and body bobbs back and forth the entire time. Which is a good thing haha

what i love about the car the most is the incognito look to it. the thing looks like a standard non flashy sedan, it looks like a regular old 3 series. I had so much fun driving it i simply cannot imagine what its like driving the new M3.

I had fun on 76 as well. There was a old early 90s era primer black lowerd steel wheel civic blowing white smoke and a mitsu evo VIII rice racing on the highway. They would constantly hotdog each other on the highway driving like morons. i wanted to test out the 335 so i passed them on the left lane no problems. Got about 5 car lenghts ahead, then the Evo got right up on my ass then cut to the right to pass me. he got right next to me then we both went for it. we were neck to neck for about 3 seconds then the 335 pull away. that was great!

There was a female passenger in the EVO and i CANNOT imagine what BS excuse the driver was telling her after this ordeal. it was priceless!! Now i want one!
 
I despise street racing, but something about you street racing in a dealer's loaner car made me :rofl: .

Really? I had a play with a 335i a few weeks back, there was nothing in it on the straights really. If anything he had the advantage because every time he floored it his turbos rocketed him away and I was having to jump between gears to get the power

hahha not making excused but i dont normally race on the streets. It was a nice clear day with a straight and no other cars where we were. Its hard to believe that people with fast cars like these never test them on the streets and only do it on the track. id like to see a poll done with the drivers here, especially the Z4m drivers, asking whether or not they have broken any traffic laws "testing" their cars. :driving:

I'm currently planning on swappiny my Coupe over for a 3 series coupe and it's a toss up betweent he 330iM sport or the 335i M sport. So far I am preffering the 330 over the 335. No denying the 335 is faster but as a package the 330 feels better to me. I also think if I went for the 335i I would always regret not spending the extra few quid and buying the M3.

It's a bit more than a few quid to the M3. :P

If your talking new, it's over £14,000 difference between the 335i M sport to the new M3!!

Under £1,500 difference between the 330iM sport and the 335i M sport.

Go for the 335i M sport! :D



Oh, and don't forget your wheels!! :trampoline:
 
I had a similar experience. A 335i loan car really turned my head. I had the sucker for 8 days and absolutely loved it. Comfortable, great ride and handling, better brakes than my Z4, just a total blast.

I have to say my enthusiasm for the Z4 began to wither after that time spent with the 335i. My Z4 is history now and when I buy another BMW it'll be a 335i four door.
