Dropping rear centre console door

Hoping for some help from anyone who's had this issue. In the past someone has taken the door that allows access to the cd changer/ satnav DVD off and now it is only partially damped so tends to hit the centre console when opened. Does anyone know how you get the damping to work. I can take the door off, but what do you need to adjust/ fix to reinstate the damping. Ps it's got the plug in phone module so would ideally like to do the repair in situ if possible.

Thanks in anticipation

I am not too sure what you mean buddy, do you mean the strap limiting the drop of the door has failed?

Some pics may help :)

I guess so as when you push the button to open the door to access the DVD OR CD autochanger the drop drops a couple of inches slowly then speeds up ( and makes a funny noise) My previous z4 just dropped slowly .

There is no strap. Must be build into the hinges on the door.

Best keep an eye on eBay, they often come up.

So had a little play with today and seen a small hole on the drivers side of the door and also found someone talking about inserting a small rod or spoke into the hole before removing the door. Obviously this was not done by the previous owner and I think that's why the door is longer damped. Can you retention the door? Car had Bluetooth so getting a replacement door may be hard and expensive.

Bluetooth shouldn't make any difference, except you need to buy the right door. The cradle just pops out so fitting isn't an issue.

As said they come up on eBay quite often.

I have the same problem with a second hand door I got on the bay. My original was fine but the finish was peeling off so I swapped it. New one was fine for a while then started clicking before giving up, it now has no damping. This weekend I split the old one open to check out the mechanism, will add photos tonight. I can't quite figure out how the fault was caused and fixing might be difficult. The flap only splits open destructively.

Here's the mechanism, if they break I can't see how you can fix them. Just make sure a pin goes in the hold in the side if they are ever removed.

What's the white bit Steve.i am trying to work out if it's just damped against the spring. Also mine has the Bluetooth module on it so I need to know if that part could be migrated to a replacement door.

No way you can get that out without mashing the whole door, I could seal it back up but to prise it apart you end up mullering the edges all the way around. The white bit is just a solid plastic piece, I *think* it's the spring that does the damping.

Either way, if the door doesn't work as advertised, I can't figure out a way to get it back in from the outside.
