Dropping Insurance Prices.

A pleasant surprise on the ///MR's insurance renewal this year. Dropped down from £216 last year to £130 this.
Our other cars have also dropped the MX5 even further than the MR, from £217 down to £109.

Not sure of the reason. Though I have turned 60 years young since the last renewal. Happy days. Now I just need to save my pension for a few months and I will be able to afford a tank of petrol. :D

That's a big drop Mr G. Well done. :D
As I have had a recent run-in with my insurers (LV, which I lost as they didn't give a sh*t), my new quotes from everyone seem to have gone up by quite a margin. Anybody would think there was an insurance database which insurers can put 'black marks' on! :o

I also don't understand how quotes for the same car, same details, same everything can be so different depending on the start date. I got a quote today for my new 4 series. I put in a start date of next Monday 25th; cost was £247.00. I then edited the quote with a start date of tomorrow; cost was £274.00. Cannot see a reason for this at all.

I could not get a decent quote for the G29, not happy at all on what I'm paying. It is in a lower group than my 718 Boxster was and worth a bit less, yet I'm paying nearly double than I paid for the Porsche with no change in circumstances.

Simple!

In the 2nd case you are in a rush, so they think they can charge you a premium for that urgency...assuming you won't have time to phone around lots of companies for comparisons.

If you do your comparison searches in plenty of time, you can hold that quote for a couple of weeks and then see how they compare to your renewal.

14-28 days before your start date seems to be the best.

New FCA legislation in place since 1 Jan mandates that renewal prices cannot be higher than for quotes for new customers. Previously, substantial discounts were offered for new customers.

Great news if you typically don't shop around. Not so great if you do.

They don't miss a trick, do they? :x

They can simply get around this new legislation by telling you that underwriting criteria & risk profiles change on a daily basis, so your renewal quote from 01-Apr does not have to be the same as your own quote done on 02-Apr...or by ever-so-slightly changing their policy terms every few weeks so that there can never be the same policy in place for new and existing customers.

And if you change cars mid-term they will load the premium on the new one. This is what I have had a dispute with LV over for the past 2 weeks. I got a new policy instead of changing the LV one, as it was £90 cheaper. Guess who the cheaper one is with........yep LV! :o

Insurance companies' attitude......'if you don't like it go somewhere else, we couldn't care less'.

Hi all..... Dont know of you've tried yet but... Last may (2021)I thought I'd give that compare the market a look, well.... Wow! My Z4 was £168 with aviva (first year of owning it..my wife's golf r-line went from £380 down to £155 with again aviva and my caddy van from £345 down to £172 with Lloyds... 😁😁

I paid £241 for my 330i with Saga last year and I renewed with them for £206 this afternoon!

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the MC renewal in June.

Just had our renewal in for the X3M40d, £366 for me and the good lady. This £45 cheaper than last years quote and this is a newer car which cost considerably more than the last X3M40d. Direct Line Insurance.

I recently insured the Z4 for £69! :trampoline: :trampoline:

Autonet, 5k miles PA, Comp-SDP, zero voluntary and compulsory excess of £150, hire car, legal cover but no breakdown (as I have that already) I also get £150 worth of vouchers for buying through Moneysupermarket.com, I didn't bother searching any further and grabbed it quick.

So you paid £69 and they gave you a possible £150 back. I can see how you took that one.

I just got the renewal notice through for my MC from Chris Knott for £300.00. :D

It was £345 last year!

Just got my quote (fully comp) for my 2020 2.0 G29. Gone down from £334 to £302 which I think is pretty good with protected NCD.

Direct Line Fully Comp cover on my E89 20i just came through the door.
Last year £273.28
This year £192.06
On the day its renewed, if I fill in the mileage they compare it with last year and reimburse me a little bit for miles not used.

That's with the remap too.

Got to say I was very surprised at my price at renewal. Protected no claims + legal cover + £100 total excess fully comp was £266 with SAGA. I was also able to lock in this price for 3 years! I live in a Manchester post code but the car is garaged at home.

SAGA so good I moved my wife’s 2020 Evoque over as well. £325 for same cover as mine but business use added and kept on drive at night. However, since then the Evoques gone and a 22 plate X2 has arrived. Thought I’d be paying more TBH but Saga sent a refund of £97!! 12 month quote for the X2 is less than £200!!!! :)

I recall I heard something about premiums dropping because they had put a limit on whiplash injuries which are also harder to prove now.

When I told my insurance company that I had sold my 35is and bought my new one the left the premiums the same but hinted that they may be lower when I renew in September. Will shop around and defo get a quote from Saga seeing that I just qualify on age.
