drop links

does anyone have any pictures of the droplinks that are known for failing? maybe something in the wheel arch with where i can see bits im looking for.

my clunking from the front passendger side has gotten a bit worse so a little heads up via a pic of what to look at may be of help.

If you take the wheel off you should see them. The are vertical skinny bits of steel rod with a bearing type assembly at each end. Easy to replace but i would also be thinking about other bushes in the front suspension as well if you can afford too. I did mine and it made the car feel great.

which bushes are these? if its not too many notes and i can do myself then anything is worth considering?

I did my ARB bushes as they where oval!! You could actually see how bad they where. And then the lolly pop bushes where the lower arm joins the chassis. Quit a few people upgrade to these and it makes fitting easier.

Or have a look at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-SUSPENSION-WISHBONES-ARMS-BUSHES-STABILISER-LINKS-TRACK-ROD-ENDS-BMW-E46-/370878743712?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CModel%3AZ4&hash=item565a1884a0 They are not genuine obviously.

When i did mine i used power flex bushes. But i had the advantage of a press to fit the parts.

so in this diagram it would be N01 and no2

did you really need the press?

This is what you need - Meyle are OEM suppliers, have bought these myself so deffo worth the money

super thanks... didnt think of looking in there... i take it if you fit poly bushes all round you will have to remove the old bush from that round housing and press in the new poly one.

hopefully for me it will just be the drop links or the ARB bush. Now i know what im looking for it will be easier to find and check although i had a good idea before its always better with a reference.

is it worth getting the polly versions? i hear mixed responses on this topic for different cars. some say it hardens the ride for road use but is great for track. seeing as i drive on things that couldn't be considered a road at the best of times maybe a bit of give is a good thing

Polly bushes can be harsh and almost definitely noisier. Heard nothing but good things about Meyle stuff.

You defiantly need a press for the lollipop bushes ARB no you don't.

thanks for all the help guys, just need to get time to whip the wheel off and have a look. hopefully its just a drop link or an ARB bush so not too expensive but im not counting my chickens. the roads round here are so bad that i wouldn't be surprised if im not doing this every year.
