Driving to Kent tomorrow - is it worth it?

I'm considering doing a works-related road trip tomorrow. There is a site I need to see in Kent not far from Maidstone and Gillingham (near the M2) before heading round the M25 to Basingstoke and then Didcot before heading back north.

My question is - what are the roads in Kent like following the storm? Are there still problems/closures due to flooding? Anywhere I should avoid? The weather forecast overnight looks dodgy as well (wind already very strong up here) and I wondered if it is expected to exacerbate the situation in Kent with the flooding?

At the moment OG they are fine but we are expecting some dodgy weather from here onwards

Thought you meant that Kent was such a bad destination

Was going to post a similar thread tomorrow / I,m heading from Lancs to Dover for a ferry at 10pm Friday .
Planned to leave home 3pm so 310 miles/ 6 hours via Birmingham / M25 / Heathrow /
It,s wild here right now & hoping things have died down by midday tomorrow or its a night in M monkey,s man cave en route

It's not started here yet - just getting a bit blowy now. I expect the motorways will be fine, if a little wet... Avoid Maidstone itself as the town centre is flooded, and stay away from local roads. Especially near the Medway. If you go M2 / A229 / M20 / M26 from Gillingham the roads should be ok. Don't use the A249, think there have been problems on there lately.

If it all goes to s**t I'll let you know

Thanks Bing

It might be worth it if when you go from Basingstoke to Didcot, you get to Newbury and instead of taking the A34 take the B4009 to Streatley and then the A417 and follow signs to Didcot. The B4009 is one of me favourite roads :driving:

Any road or traffic info from M25 down to Dover appreciated :) Web says delays possible throughout the day on Ferry crossings , wife been out for travel sickness pill,s :P

Went to Ashford on M20 yesterday afternoon / eve... just a bit of water, u will b fine

Dropped my lass at Penbury this Friday morning - same story, few big puddles, few fallen trees but again hardly much to write home about. Maidstone's probably so badly flooded because of one of the other locals who's been washing his car too much, so steer clear of that & you'll b just fine

Safe jnys

Just been to Dover..everything around the Port seems normal it's blowy but not as bad as previous days/ nights so you should be fine for your crossing..I would just check that the Dartford Bridge is open, if not go anti clockwise on M25 and get to Dover via M25/M26/M20..

There is no such thing as 'too much'... And in any case, the drainage system has been upgraded to cope :P
