Driving through France

Hello all !

I’ll be driving through France to Switzerland, and have purchased the EU driving kit , which includes the light deflectors.

Are they really necessary? There is a setting in iDrive where lights can be switched for Right / Left hand traffic so just wondering if I need the light deflectors at all.

Don’t want to be stopped by the French rozzers who will say non monsieur you must put on deflectors. 120 euro fine s’il vous plaît

Change the setting in iDrive, no deflectors necessary. Does your 'kit' include a Crit' Air badge, required for certain towns in France, and the Swiss Vignette?

Thanks !

I do have the French Crit Air but not the Swiss Vignette - I was advised I can purchase this in any petrol station in Switzerland ?

You can and you can also purchase at the border when they pull you in, but I find that it is less hassle to buy online and have it in place before setting off. You would though have to purchase in good time to allow for delivery.

You can also enjoy non-motorway roads in Switzerland. I stopped buying vignette couple of years ago and set my navigation to non-vignette roads, it's an option in settings. Thanks to it, you can see lovely views and discover new places.

That sounds great ! We’re only stopping to sleep in Switzerland - destination is Italy

I didn’t realise there is a setting in idrive. I thought it’s a flat beam. Where in idrive is it?

Press the NAV button then scroll over to the right of the screen select SETTINGS then ROUTE CRITERIA. Make your choices.

I was referring to the head lights. ;)
