Right, I'll cut straight to the point on this one... Brother-in-law is cycling John o groats to lands end for charity with one of his work buddies, my wife is supporting as she is a physio... I have planned to meet them in Penrith, driving up from SE London so looking for any suggestions for top notch driving roads, and photo points for the Zed as have yet to take a picture of her other than on the driveway... :driving:

Appreciate any good pointers!! I am really looking forward to the drive, just me and the ///Mistress...

Can't recommend any roads I'm afraid. My only knowledge cross country to there is main roads only.

Looking forward to seeing some epic photos of the MC though and hope the challenge goes well

A friend did the JOGLE a year ago and it was filmed as a students final year project. I'll ask them if the video is online and if they have the route documented.

I live in Penrith :D You should stop off in my family shop in the centre its a mens and ladies shop call Arnisons. Cant miss it

I hope I get some good pics! Going to give her a good clean before I go so she is all purdy...

The guys have been training for a while for the challenge, very inspiring!

Tom, your pictures are amazing!! Absolutely stunning!! I cannot help but stare at the black and white hairpin, I am day dreaming of driving around roads like that with Matt Monro - On Days Like These playing for some reason... :driving: Honnister pass looks like good fun!

I will be staying just round the corner from your family shop so will pop in if I get a chance

Do you have any tips for taking a good picture? Obviously I can't do any dynamic shots as I am on me tod. Do you think its worth taking some quick detailer and a microfibre for a pre-photo spruce?

Tom I am very jealous!! You have some amazing roads up here!!

Drove on Snake Pass on my way up, some ace corners on there! Stopped and took a couple of pictures (probably nowhere as good as yours though)

Parked up in Penrith now for the night, time for beer then Kirkston and Honnister tomorrow :driving:

Oh any recommendations for dinner?

Brilliant...

Yea the Snake is a good road, fast and flowing and twisty and dangerous all in one.

Great scenery too as you get near Derwent and Ladybower...

The last time i went upto Penrith we ate ar the Foundry... It was a nice place to eat,it hadnt been open long and was pretty packed... Brilliant rib eye!!

The last time I did Snake pass there were mobile speed cameras so watch yourselves lads.
I have done the Cat and Fiddle run quite a few times on the bike but not in the Zed,good flowing and twisty road but one of the most dangerous roads in the U.K.but policed a lot at the weekend.
Best bet is to do it in the week if you're passing, but drive safely.Watch your speed too,it has the cameras that records your speed over a distance! :headbang:

Lucky lad Z4M-2006 for having them roads on your doorstep

So 668 miles and 110.2l of only the finest fuel, and some awesome roads, I am home...

Thanks for all the recommendations, wasn't physically possible to fit them all in... Had a good hoon down Snake Pass (once i ignored the sat nav which kept sending me round in circles in Sheffield!). Stopped at the Snake Inn for a quick coffee and a 'comfort break' (must have been the excitement). Got chatting to the manager who has just taken over running the place and seemed to be running the whole show himself at the moment! He is currently trying to turn the place around! Nice chap, very enthusiastic about cars etc. He mentioned that the VW EOS owners club in Holland came over and he put breakfast/lunch on for about 30 of them... Seems like he is very happy to accommodate meets, so maybe consider the place as a rendezvous or stop off if there is ever a meet that way... Good size car park too!

Had a good drive around Shap area also... Some fantastic hairpins and amazing gradients! Although was very misty yesterday so no great photos... :(

Will post pics once I catch up with things a bit!!

Never heard this before. What a voice....so effortless and smooth and indeed a great track to drive along to in the sunshine with the top down!

The Snake pass inn is about 20 mins from my house and there has been a few BMW and Porsche Mini meets there over the last few years..

Not a bad little place that could now do with a spruce up,but the beer is good and the hot beef butties even better... ;)

I was going to reccommend that you came back over the Woodhead as you had already been over the Snake...That said, the Snake is prettier on the eye and is a good road,Woodhead can be tricky and can be lorry ridden mid day..

Matt was very popular in the 60's and this track came from the epic film 'The Italian Job'. Somebody I was friendly with as a teenager used to serve in the Army with Matt.
