Driving in Europe

I’m planning a trip through France in the Spring and was looking at latest requirements ( Hi Viz, Crit d’air etc) and I wondered about the headlights on G29. Is there any idrive adjustment for driving on the right , no adjustment required or dealer only. ?
Thanks

I don’t have a G29 but on my x5 it is simply in the idrive to change left to right.

Hi viz for each person in the car, and has to be in the car and not in the boot.

Bulb set required and GB sticker, no need for a breathalyser anymore.

On my 330e its a setting in the iDrive to switch from left to right

If you need breakdown cover while you are there, it's *much* cheaper to get an RAC policy that covers European trips (about £90 per year) than to get cover for a specific trip (I was quoted over £200 for a single trip to Copenhagen).

Check you don't need an emissions sticker for your car, where you are planning to go.

As said, headlights and km/h are easily set in iDrive. Depending on age of your car you may already have breakdown cover under manufacturers warranty, if not and you have an extended warranty you will have it under that too.

I could of course neither confirm or deny that on a recent European trip one of our party may or may not have taken out an extended warranty days before we left the U.K. and cancelled the DD on our return, full European cover including repairs for circa £40 iirc

@Glenn510 would recommend getting one of these https://www.racshop.co.uk/european-driving-kits

Note, you only need a Crit’Air sticker if you are driving through cities/towns with low emissions zones - more info on this can be found here https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/law-change-for-uk-drivers-in-french-cities/

Also ensure that you have European breakdown cover, as this is arguably the most important thing you need when travelling to Europe by car.

Enjoy the trip

In iDrive exteriol lighting manual, there is an option to adjust right-hand traffic or left-hand traffic. If your car is UK spec car, choose the one without (Default) at the back when you are in EU.

Thankyou. I have gone through idrive, located and now know what to do both going and then when back across the channel. Just need to work our where to stick UK badge or whether to just get new number plates with UK on instead.

I don't have a sticker and never had one for the 35 years I have been going back and forth. If you are really worried about that, take a magnetic "sticker" so you can put it on if you wanted to.

I just got a sticker from halfords and stick it on the rear bumper. Ugly but I don't want any potential trouble with police, and peel it off as soon as I'm back.

magnetic one might not work for G29 as the bumper is plastic and the boot lid is composite material. But I have to say I haven't actually tried one yet.

Talking about magnetic "sticker", I'm wondering where did you buy the magnetic wheel arch protector for your 911? Web search all suggest a U.S company but the ordering process sounds complicated.

Yes, I bought mine in the US. It is really good as after I resprayed the front and sides of the car thanks to the Scottish roads, I had the whole car PPF-ed and the standard plastic wheelarch cover was shredded so I knew that plastic alone was not good enough.

As it is magnetic, I take it off at each wash and you can feel on the thick material that it is getting impact hits on it. Tested up to 180 mph so it does not move

Okay, thanks. Looks like I will need to follow their strange ordering process.

Mine comes with whole car PPF but after collected so many marks near that region after a trackday, it feels like I will need more protection there.

Magnagrafik?

I have had mine for a long time, can't really remember the ordering part :D

I am interested in this thread as I am driving to Germany in two weeks time. I run a company that can produce magnetic signs or SAV stickers so that's easy and I guess I need a bulb kit and hi viz. Is that it? I can change a few things like units and headlight beam in the car control panel so that should be it I guess......
I will chunnel it. Anyone any thoughts on Waze/Google maps and France and speed cameras...?
