Driving in Europe

When I took mine to The Alps last year (and what a fantastic car to drive around the Alps the Z4 is!), I never bothered doing anything and I never had an issue nor oncoming vehicles flashing me etc

The E89 Z4 with HIDs have a flat beam pattern and if you take your car to Europe for a holiday you will have no problems and will not blind cars coming the other way but if like me you are going to export / register your car in Europe, Spain in my case it won't pass the MOT (or european equivalent). I had to take the wheel off, remove the wheel arch lining and remove the xenon bulb to get to a lever which you pull up to change to beam pattern for driving on the right.

Beam deflector stickers won't do anything since the beam pattern is flat and there is no marking on the headlight lenses as to where to apply them.

I am out in France on a 2000 mile round trip now and whilst most of my driving has been during the day, some mileage has been at night ( E89 version) . No issues at all ,even when going through many long tunnels. I asked my dealer before I left and he said no need to do anything.
Seems he was correct.
