Driving harassment

Nasty, idiots are out there but well done for not rising to them. Calling the police might still be worthwhile if you got the reg.

Dialling 112 would have been better as they can use your mobile gps signal to pin point your location :driving:
Have to admit I always bite when tapped up whether it's a 106 or an f360. Small mans syndrome I know but I just like the fight, win or lose. Obviously different for the ladies and I think you did the right thing rubes 8)

I don't think it matters whether you dial 112 or 999 - I have been pinpointed from a mobile on 999 before. 112 is primarily for when you're abroad and may not know the local emergency services number I believe.

Glad you're ok Ruby - you're home safe so chalk it up to experience and if it ever happens again dial the boys in blue

Sounds like undercover rozers to me.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago with a old volvo s40. Ignored them. They eventually sped off. Later see them with lights on!

Pain in the arse, but put the music up and ignore them.

If you feel threatened, dial 999 from the car and tell them exactly what is happening. If it's unmarked plod they'll get a fearsome bollocking.

This is sound advice.... I read a post on fb once that if you are being flashed by a police car you are allowed to 112 and tell them you plan to pull over in a public place... Even if thats over 10 miles away to the next service station.

My mrs is cabin crew so is often on the motorway in the early hours. Unfortunately this type of thing happens all to often.

IIRC the UK Emergency services can only pinpoint to around 100m via mobile signals, triangulating using towers?

think I would have dialled the police whilst the idiot was prating around, keeping calm was the best thing you did

Here's a post from a camping forum that I found -

"I'm ex-ambulance service and spent a large portion of my time 'modernising' the dispatch function. 112 is the Pan-European emergency service number that compliments the UK 999 number. A call made on either 112/999 is automatically triangulated to provide the callers position (phones with in-built GPS or A-GPS will provide more accurate GPS positioning). The introduction of this service in early 2000/2001 made a dramatic improvement in obtaining the location of an incident and getting help there quickly. You DO require a phone signal (albeit it does not have to be your mobile provider, but a cellular signal is required) the mobile doesn't require a SIM card to make an emergency call (but some older phones require a SIM as they were built prior to the no-SIM emergency call requirement)

As part of a US program called E-911 mobiles will be required to have some GPS capability (most low end units will have Assisted GPS receivers (A-GPS) to provide automated positioning during 911 calls. I'm not aware of this being mandatory in the UK but it would seem sensible."

Very little you can do about imbeciles made worse by the time of night as it were however taking note of the reg no is a good start if you are not in a panic. Slow down and stay behind even if you have to pull over, pull off at the earliest opportunity, make sure your doors are locked and pull up somewhere you feel safe (maybe even the slip road) Contact the Police and give them details of the incident.
By the time you have done that you should be free to continue your journey and hopefully the problem will have disappeared.

But I did slow to like 50 and he was in middle lane and also slowed so as he was right next to me, for ages until I got scared and overtook...so I tried to lose him. But then he chased me and caught up and had I gone faster it would have been dangerous and illegal.

My advice (I wouldn't take it either....)

Undo windows, put hand out in fist motion, raise middle finger, change to 3rd, floor it then wave :D

:driving:

I was giving this some really serious thought on the airport bus last night ......
And came to the conclusion, that in future, should this happen again, you should slow down
and allow them to pass you, .... If they too slow down ahead of you and piss you off .... Then flick
open the weapons center safety cover on your dashboard and arm all weapons, then fire a high velocity
armour piercing 35 mm shell being sure to pre-select "highexplosive" first.

Should there be an survivors, you should then select the machine gun option, I'd suggest fragmentation rounds,
then fire continuously till only lumps of bloody meaty bits are left on the road.

Should any of these bits still be twitching, then simply drive over them as you continue your journey enjoying the feel of your wonderfull zed ...... :D

Ruby you did the right thing even when you were under pressure and you've now been given other options too which might be of help to many on this forum. Try using the words 'causing alarm distress and harassment' when contacting the police - I believe they can arrest for such behaviour.

The police follow up on bad driving when it's reported by the public with a number plate so reporting after the event is still useful.

There's always going to be folk like this about - main thing is you coped and responded well.

:driving:

I probably would have risen to it to teach the prat a lesson, but then the little guy on my shoulder would have calmed me down. You did the right thing, no question
however as Paul G said, reporting the little prat may have stopped him from doing it to somebody else.

I did think about reporting it afterwards but then thought cameras may have been looked at..then there were times I might have been going at 71 mph, probably not but its a possibility
