Driving from San Fran to Santa Monica

I don't think there are any bad pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge to be taken, different lights, foggy, sunny, they all look great. I know you are tight for time, but if you get a few minutes (an hour), visit Fort Point at the Presidio in SF. You will find a few shots of the bridge that might be a little unique. I hope you have a wonderful trip, I know our trips have given us so many special memories.

Outstanding pic, Bob!

The wife and I will come up and buy some cocktails at the Viper Room. So , if you see some ols white haired guy, tap him on the shoulder and tell me what you are drinking.

Well the day is here!

Been in San Francisco a week and absolutely gutted to leave. What a fantastic relaxed, chilled, friendly city. Just brilliant.

Done all the tourist things but finished it off by seeing reformed UK band James last night at the Regency Ballroom. A perfect end to a perfect week.

So in an hour or so, its the long drive to SM, but hopefully get in some of the drives you guys talk about earlier.

Bob - hopefully will get web access when in SM so will give you a shout when there.

You are embarking on the drive of your life....enjoy it as not many get (or take) the opportunity. I did some years back. I'd love to do this drive in a Z4.
Be careful and have fun. The vistas are at times just breathtaking. :driving:

So VERY happy!

Enjoy the day and take your time and smell the roses. What day is Rivers at the Viper Room? I have been on the site and do not see it posted. You have a PM.

This thread reminds me of April and meeting up with IMZ4N to sample some of the delights of the area. Just so enjoyable and if you do get a chance do hook up with IMZ4N - top guy, knows his area and just loves people. Enjoy that coast road. It's special.

Incedentally Bob I'm a comin' back in November if all goes well....

Way cool. Are you going to plan an extra day so you can see something else?

Of course - Given that length of journey I would certainly do that, perhaps 2 days :)

Well after all the planning and tips, ended up going the direct route down highway 5.

As we set off, I realised I was going to tire due to going out the night before and the long drive would be difficult. I really enjoyed it tho to be honest, took just over 7 hours with a stop off half way down, and saw some lovely scenery through the mountains.

Gutted to have missed something I've planned and looked forward to for so long, but I've enjoyed this area so much I will be back and plan it better next time - arranging a stop off for a few nights on the way down.

All being well will catch Bob over the next week - can't believe how quick its going and how much we've got to do!

Dude, I am so bummed you could not make the coast. Like you said, next time. There is just too much to see in CA. Tell the truth, did you leave the windows and top down when you drove by the cattle yards on 5? Have a great time during the remainder of your trip.

Now that was a smell! The roof was firmly up. Lol

I was surprised how much we enjoyed that route to be honest. Remember driving to Miami from Orlando once and it was sooo boring.

Loving Santa Monica too. Went to Hollywood and Beverly Hills yesterday. Time running out - gutted!

Love, love, love Beverly Hills but love the openess of my San Diego! Way less traffic and the air is cleaner here, but not the water! We don't talk much about that thanks to our South of the border neighbor! All of CA is scenic and known for its beauty unique to each area. Enjoy it, but you will have to come back many tiimes to savor all our special spots. However Bob knows them ALL and he along with wonderful Robyn will show you more sights than you thought possible!

senwar, for all the beauty, illegal immigrants and A listers in the great State of Kalifornia, the peeps that legislate the State still come begging to the feds for $7 billion. Go figure.

Unfortunately California was lost to the illegal masses years ago. With a population of nearly 3 million ilegals in CA receiving services estimated to cost better than $7 billion a year there is no end in sight. Senwar enjoy your trip and be safe.

So where is our traveler today? Sure is quiet.
Over here! Hello!

Have spent a fantastic afternoon/evening with Bob and Robyn. Had lunch in Santa Monica (thanks again Bob) then drove through Malibu, up into the Santa Monica mountains. A glorious drive with roads that scared both me and the wife (I got used to them eventually). Then up to the bottom of the Hollywood sign for a night time view.

Seen some stunning scenery, and with fantastic company. Bob/Robyn - Carol and myself cannot thank you both enough. It was a privilege to spend time with you. Thanks for taking the time and effort you did today. You've certainly whet our appetite for california.

Will post pics when we return - looking forward to seeing ginger! Ha ha. Hope you enjoyed the concert.

I am so jealous! What a fun day I KNOW you all had. Beautiful weather for it too. You just have to come back again and Bob can organize one of his fantastic runs. So glad you and Carol had a great time enjoying our incredible California scenery and roads!
