Drivetrain slack..

Anyone else get a noticeable clonk when engaging/disengaging the clutch from standstill. Pretty sure this is the standard M-diff clunk, which is what it sounds like, although I'm thinking mine may have got louder in recent months...

Wondering whether to bother with a trip to the dealers, only to be told that "they all do that, sir"...

I have heard it called a number of things but the best description was transmission backlash. Mine has just come out of the dealers for a number of things and they test drove it and commented on it as "normal sir". It does sound strange though and when at traffic lights disengaging a gear it makes me sound like a novice. To top it off I then jerk up the road because of the CDV

Mines done it from new, there's even a section in one of the manuals which mentions 'acoustic feedback' and 'clanking noises' due to the reinforced driveline.

I figured it was standard. A mate's M3 does the same thing. It's just only recently I've noticed it. Guess I've finally loosened her up! ;)

I stood onthe drive today whilst he Mrs revesed out and set off. My god it sounds...erm mechanical to say the least!

Yes it does.

And i love it! All those clunks and diff noises just give the car more character and i'd be sad if it went all "quiet"..
