drivers window wont go up/down

few days ago noticed my drivers window was going up/down a bit slow, just been out to the car to try the window heard a bang from the door now window wont go up or down, you can hear the mechanism working.

Search the Forum for 'window regulator' that which is 99% sure to be the problem, quite common on the Z4 but the good news is it's probably not the motor itself. I had mine done about 5 years ago, some members have fixed their own with a kit that replaces the cable, but involves dismantling the regulator unit which is designed as a one-piece unit per this youtube clip. Given the problem I've had in the past refitting frameless windows I didn't bother.

You can get complete mechanism for around 150, you just need to swap motor over, never looked at the repair kit, I think sk93 used repair kits but eventually put complete new mech in

Yes that's what it is , the cable eventually snaps. Passenger reg went a few months ago, and my driver's just went bang last night ! Frustrating

Are you going to fix it yourself ? I've had my door card off today and it looks like a lot of faffing. You will need to buy a new membrane and sealant if you want to be sure about water proofing, it doesn't come off very well and so lovely to get damaged.

ive spent the last few hours on youtube/here and the net watching videos and threads on doing it yourself, it looks a right hassle I think I would do more damage so going to buy a new regulator and get a local indy to do it, first to months of ownership not going well lots of little things going wrong already, hopefully have them all sorted before the summer comes.

I'm thinking of letting someone else do it also, my warranty excess is £150 which is why I've debated doing it myself. Literally whilst reassembling the door card for the driver's side yesterday, the passenger mirror glass fell off. Falling apart

that's not good mate hope you get it sorted, ive emailed a local bmw indy specialist today waiting for the the quote to get if fixed, then ive still got to sort a weird noise from the back and fix the passenger wing mirror that's not worked since I picked It up.

Its not difficult to do, I did it last year and its pretty simple, are you anywhere near Rotherham?

tyneside mate, looking to get it done asap by local indy, got a few little jobs to do on the car too get it all tidied up ready for the summer,

When I bought my Zed I found this was the reason why my driver window wouldn't go down...

The previous owner had botched a repair when the cable had snapped. I ordered a new cable from eBay for about £17 and fixed it in about 2 hours. Just take care not to damage the door membrane and make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag.

that was bad, to be honest not enjoying my first z4 at the moment, only had it two months the drivers side wing mirror doesn't work, as mentioned looks like window regulator gone, two tyres wont stay inflated so replaced them all with new run flats, rear tyre still going down discovered I had a cracked alloy got that fixed still getting tyre warning light coming on, its at the garage today trying to find out what the noise is coming from the back I think its the torque converter playing up, seriously thinking of contacting the dealer to see if I can have my money back.

To be fair that sounds lie, you should take it back to the dealer and get it all done on warranty. They've sold it knowing all that. Don't blame the little zed it's not her fault

to be honest I can accept the tyres need replacing and also accept the cracked alloy, its the noise and window regulator breaking that's took the shine of getting the z, im not one for complaining hence why I forked out for tyres and alloy to be fixed, hopefully the noise and window will be sorted under the warranty, then I can start enjoying it and spending my hard earned money on it would like some new alloys and non run flats.

I waited about 10 months till I took my runflats off. Made such a big difference.

hopefully will have some new alloys and non run flats before the summer, I love the look of the car wanted one for a while i'm sure once i've got these bits sorted I can enjoy it.

when fitting my new window motor, the bmw engineer said not to bother disconnecting the battery for airbag

and mine didnt go off lol

[ref]synthedup[/ref], mine just went snap this morning :/
If it is just the cable then that is a lot cheaper on eBay than the larger frame that is sold with it (for £150). I’ve never attempted anything like this. Help…?
