Driver's window regulator replacement

My drivers side window stopped working yesterday. I can hear the motor running when I press the switch, but I can hear some crunching sounds coming from the door and the window doesn't move.

I've had a Google and seen you can fairly easily repair this DIY with kits off eBay for about £20, but can't find a step-by-step guide on how to do this (or at least find one that is clear enough to follow). I'm a bit nervous about doing it myself, but BMW wanna charge over £200 for it and places like Kwik-Fit won't touch it.

Can anyone help?

youtube is your friend

and youll need a pack of these to put it all back together.

No idea why they don't supply in the kit.

I tend to use pelican parts DIY guides when I get stuck... lots of pictures!!

Might be of use...

You guys, I could KISS you! But I'll wait until I see if this all works and I don't cock it up!

I've had a look through Youtube and I've not found a video that's particularly clear or easy to follow. There's one of a guy who's just doing it all with one hand and filming on his phone in the other so its all over the place. The rest seem to be for E46s. Do you know of a better one?

I'm certain there's a couple of how to's on the forum - I used them when I did mine.
I made a word document of them to print off and have by my side - I'll send it to you. The originals would be better as they have pics

My passenger window regulator recently packed up. As expected the cable was all twisted and frayed but there was also a broken plastic part, my mechanic used a special epoxy to try and glue the part but it didn't work. Long and short was we messed around for 2.5hrs and then gave up and ordered a new part from "Carpartsforless" (ECP sister company). My mechanic said the new part looked much better made.

Unless you're pretty handy I'd bite the bullet and get a new part, even fitting that isn't straight forward.

Also, whilst the door card is off put some sound deadening (Silent coat or Dynamat) on the inside of the door. Good luck with whatever way you try.

I've started trying to replace the regulator, and I've gotten as far as taking the old one out and I'm stuck. I can't figure out how to remove the broken cables and fix the new cables onto the regulator.

I bought this kit off eBay:

So I need to figure out how to remove the cables and replace with this one. Anyone know how?

In all the youtube tutorials I've watched, everyone just has a full replacement assembly so just swaps them out of the door. For some reason I only got the wires.

Pretty sure I used this when I done mine:

Think that’s the one I used also.

OP have you drilled the rivets out?
